Slow Web site.

[?] Why is this site so slow in comparison to other forum sites? I am in my data center going out over either one of two OC 48 circuits or an OC 192, so it can't be the speed of the fiber. Any ideas?

RE: Slow Web site.

It's happening on his server. I get the same slow speed wether I am using my 1.2 DSL or a 56k dial up line. My guess is the code is processing records it doesn't have to when you post a record (in the form of your web page data entry) to his database. Whatever it is, if he fixed it, it would make this site 100% better. I can live with the other bugs, but the slowness is a real drag.

They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

RE: Slow Web site.

I think it's the software. There are several inexpensive (really inexpensive) commercial software packages that would perform much better. I'm guessing the data transfer would probably be a bitch, tho...

RE: Slow Web site.

As many forums as he has going, you bet. Now adays the simplist solution to a problem like that is to just throw a lot of hardware at it. Hardware is cheap, custom software ain't. Even when the package is cheap set up hours will eat you alive. Get a box and stuff it full of gigas and processors.

Look at http://mbcanada.com. That software license was around $150 (maybe less). The guys that run it just did all the custom work bit by bit in their spare time.

If he went from scratch, he'd be ok, but to transfer all his current data might be a daunting task.
