See, here is that logic again - the United States of Amerika gets to be the judge, jury and executioner. For all we know, the Iraqi people were fine with all the killing. After all, the Kurds turned on their own country and sided with the Iranians, and the Shiites rebelled. Mr. Botnst, while he claims what an idealistic democrat is he is, would rather not let the people of Iraq decide this, he would rather us, an outside power, ban this political party at the point of a gun.

Why? If The Baath Party is so bad, then no one would vote for it. That's the way democracy works. The Nazi Party exists in the US, does it not? In the end - we see what is really at work here - we favor democracy in other countries, as long as it works in our interest, in other words, we favor puppet governments.

Here is the real reason it is banned: millions of Iraqis would vote for it. It's ideology is a threat to oil companies, and the entire reason for this war and the ones that will follow is the the destruction and banning of this party.
What is being advocated is something like what is happening in our schools here locally--"controlled choice." To me, the term is an oxymoron, just as is the "controlled democracy" the Bush team is advocating. If you really believe in the will of the people, then you let the chips fall where they may. The current administration and all those who agree with its philosophy, are all great advocates of "democracy," unless it reaps a government that will be uncooperative (read, friendly to the oil companies).

By the way, Allawi is a former Baathist, known by those on the scene as "Saddam Lite." Since the American occupation, it has been widely reported that he personally executed several detainees to set an example of the sort of interim government he intended to run. Him, the U.S. likes.

RE: Will Rummy have a rendezvous with justice?

Put his name on the end of americas list of friends ,somewhere between Marcos and Hussein would be nice.
But you've already forgotten that indicted criminal Ahmed Chalabi, who Bremer decided was to be the president for life of the new democratic christian state of Mesopotamia.(nice biblical ring for the bushites).
But maybe in the rush to condemn your leader, the arch angel george, you forgot that Bremer and Chalabi's boss was none other than convicted liar,M Dukakis.
Nice country you got folks, nice law abiding government.

Keep it up folks and armageddon will come.
and Mr K ,since when have the Kurds had a country?
They have a Nation, but it is spread from the middle east to the US.
Kurdistan is place in name only, meaning land of the Kurds.
Don't forget,if it wasn't for the US and GB interfering in the affairs of Iraq in the late 1950's ,Iraq today would be run (at least in the north) by Kurds.
And Americas friend,Sadaam, would never have been allowed to rise beyond the streets.[}:)]
And LOOK,the PPK, enemy of democracy and the US in the 1980's is now "friend and Ally" of the US.[:D][:D]
have the Kurds suddenly embraced Christianity as espoused by the prosletising bushites?
Or is it just control of the oil. Oil that you will have to buy so the Kurds will be able to live in the expected style with which they will become very accustomed.
Then they too will become terrorist states and evil muslems adnuseum.[}:)]

M Dukakis? You mean this guy?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Germany Rejects Call for Rumsfeld War Crimes Probe

KARLSRUHE, Germany - Germany's federal prosecutor Thursday rejected calls to investigate allegations that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was guilty of war crimes over the Iraq prisoner abuse scandal.

The U.S. Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and four Iraqis who say they were abused by American soldiers at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison had filed a criminal complaint with German Federal Prosecutor Kay Nehm in November.

They were seeking to take advantage of a 2002 German law allowing for the prosecution of human rights abuses and war crimes regardless of the where they occur.

The complaint said that Rumsfeld, former CIA Director George Tenet, a senior defense official and seven U.S. military officers, including the former top U.S. commander in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, were ultimately responsible for the torture and humiliation of Iraqis at Abu Ghraib.

The German federal prosecutor said in a statement it was up to the United States in the first instance to pursue legal action against the alleged perpetrators and their superiors.

German prosecutors could only step in if U.S. authorities failed to act, for which there was currently no evidence, the prosecutor added.

Photographs of U.S. soldiers tormenting naked detainees sent shockwaves around the world when they emerged in April, prompting claims that policies adopted for the so-called "war on terror" created an environment that allowed the breach of human rights enshrined in U.S. and international law.

The CCR said its action was a last resort after the failure of the U.S. congress to properly investigate Abu Ghraib.
