RE: Is it possible Bush is right?

The U.S. initiated a military invasion of a neighboring country in 1961. People here like to forget, since it resulted in an embarrassing ass-kicking...

RE: Is it possible Bush is right?

I suppose one must ignore the fact that after signing treaties recognizing the Cheyenne, Souix, Navaho, Shoshone, Kiyawa, Apaches and a few others as nations, we invaded their land and stole it anyway. I guess theft and genocide don't count as "colonization".

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Prior to 1941 the US invaded and occupied Cuba and the Phillipines, and invaded Nicarauga and Panama and set up puppet governments. It also imposed governments of its liking throughout Central America and the Carribean, to the point those countries were de facto colonies. The Phillipines, parts of Panama and Cuba were kept as actual colonies.
We can argue about those central american actions all day long. Lots of people smarter than me, and maybe even smarter than you, disagree about them.

The Philipines were colonial holdings.

But take a little peaky at my original constraints on my arguments, just to humor me. Note the time constraints.

The argument still stands.

Who invaded whom? We gave logistical support to American armed and trained Cubans under Kennedy's authorization. I presume that's the one to which you allude? I guess that Kennedy thought it was a good idea to help one batch of Cubans fight another batch of Cubans. Did Kennedy send in American forces to conquer Cuba?

The U.S. invaded Cuba. The soldiers, who were U.S. trained and U.S. armed, were Cuban exiles operating under the direction of the Kennedy administration. If that doesn't qualify as U.S. aggression toward a neighbor in your mind, it does in mine.

I keep waiting for the Liberals to accuse the Conservatives for putting Castro into power.............

Castro assumed power because of the Washington Senators baseball team. I'm not sure which political party should be held responsible.

Oh right....Bush is responsible for Castro being in power.......When is Kennedy going to blurt out that tidbit of wisdom with the other crap he has been spouting off recently. That man is in serious need of psyciatric evaluation about now.

No, I don't think Bush had anything to do with the Washington Senators in 1947...
