Oh. I thought there was some truely impending danger of first amendment dissolution
You don't think you could be imprisoned indefinitely without charges for just moving your lips under the Patriot Act?

Ask Diane Feinstein. She supports it. Must be another damned-fool neocon.

Dang, there goes that sarcasm again.

I believe the Patriot Act is potentially as dangerous as you say, G. In the hands of say, J. Edgar Hoover it would provide a hideous tool for abridgement of civil liberty. I hope it gets repealed, but there seems to be no significant legislative sentiment in that regard. Congress seems to think that amending, not ending is the route to take.

I do think that if you speak about certain things, you could. For the record, I am very uncomfortable about the Patriot Act. It has been used on at least two occasions (sorry no link, just heard it on the news while I was otherwise occupied) to arrest and prosecute NON-TERRORIST AMERICAN CITIZENS who, and I hate to profile, were not of the typical terrorist......uh....look.

For now, at least, your ability to speak against govt. is safe......until I get into power MOOOOOHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!

RE: Worlds leaders PRAISE Iraqi elections

There are some very specific laws that are designed to punish the heck out of people who speak on certain subjects. But those laws are tightly targeted in certain governmental communites (intelligence, clandestine and covert methods, personnel and ops) and are notoriously difficult to use against common citizens and newsmedia. In most instances, I support those laws with the biggest exception being the use of classified designations on many, many policy papers. In most instances I think we should know what governmental policy is and how it is derived.

And some parts of Patriot Act make sense--ie tracking an individual for wiretapping rather than a phone number. But an awful lot (IMO) of Patriot is just too easy to misuse. Like thsoe contemptible RICO laws. But don't get me started....

Actually, my nephew just came back this week, and he has been telling me how right I am.
How can that be? Just before the Nov elections you said he was just entering flyboy boot camp.

It was nine weeks of basic for me, then on to special training.
That goes along with him saying last October that he was a member of a union, and just the other day he said he left the union in the late 90s. Hmmmmm.

I'm considering the possibility that "MOOOOOHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA" is some sort of clandestine code. Any encryption experts in the crowd?

It is the evil laughter of a poli/criminal mastermind, contemplating the fall of democracy at his currently rubbing together hands.

Now the Liberals who supported Saddam and wanted to keep him in power (why?) now have serious egg on their face.
If 100,000 dead Iraqis had also voted, I'd heartily agree.
Are you aware that number is roughly 5% of what the beloved Saddam Hussein is responsible for?
Are you aware the US refuses to release civilian casaulty figures? I wonder why.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Better check your sources.

I get a little sick of you calling me a liar. If you have a point to make, post the thread where you think I asserted something that is not true, because you seem to be making up shit to make me look like a liar of some sort. If you can't do that, why don't you go fuck yourself?
