OT: I got to drive a Hummer H1

A friend of mine whos father works for a shipping company brought home a Hummer H1 company car. It is a 2004 brand new full wagon version. I got to drive it around my neighborhood yesterday and let me tell you that thing is one cool truck! Today in about 30 minutes im going to take it off roading on some land my panrents own a few miles up the road. Upon my return I will post a full road test to let you guys know how it performs off road in the snow and dirt! Anyhow, whats your opinion on the off road capabilities of the Hummer compared to the G-Wagen? Which is better? I would imagine that in swampy wet conditions like snow and sand, the Hummer would excell. Whats your opinion? Oh and dont worry, as cool a truck as the Hummer is, I still would rather have a G-Wagen any day of the week![8D] Im still looking forward to actually driving a G-Class.

Don't test it, I can make a wild guess regarding the results...

15 minutes into driving it we got it stuck in a stream and spent the next hour and a half winching it out.

G -Wagon can't keep up w/it in any respect. However, a well equipt Unimog could take it on...

RE: OT: I got to drive a Hummer H1

Last summer, I could no find a truck at the rental companies, so I took a Hummer home for a night. I took it home and bought a bunch of trees, plants, and yard stuff. The next day, I took back the Hummer. It was a better deal than renting because it was free and did not have to fill up the tank.

I just told the manager that it did not fit well in my garage and the navigation system suck.

RE: OT: I got to drive a Hummer H1

a unimog could drive circles around an H1, and some simple cross axle action can get an H1 stuck that any g could drive through with full diff locks.... not to mention that the H1 is too wide to fit on lots of trails... and therefore by default can't go lots of places a G can go. It doesn't matter how capable the truck is if it doesn't fit on the roads. You need to do a little more homework. Sure, you can find situations where the H1's centerline clearance will do it good service, but that's also assuming it's running in the first place.

Well, assuming wide open but very rough terrain, the G-Wagon might as well stay in the garage. The Unimog is very primitive, but w/ the right gears and tires, look out! They can be made into absolute monsters.

Well, assuming wide open but very rough terrain,
[?][?] What kind of fool would drive that way under those conditions?

Keep in mind, that the Mog wide open in high gear has a top speed of about 55-60 mph.

You're trying to compare apples with kumquats.[xx(]

I'm stealing that John Stuart Mill quote.

Thought you'd like to know.
