RE: Ann Coulter thinks Canada went to Vietnam
I think we would find it unpleasant. Full scale war is out of the question simply due to the terrain. It would have to be an aerial war. The problem is we have an enemy that can actually retaliate. Over the last few years a de facto alliance has been formed between Iran, China, Pakistan and North Korea. Each nation builds something well, and shares it with the others. Iran's army is well equipped with all these military goodies. Iran has long range missles capable of hitting targets in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Israel, Iraq, etc. It also has something Iraq did not - national cohesiveness and xenophobia. Instead of a rag tag army we would face a foe that will have many men who will actually be willing to die for their country- something we haven't faced since Vietnam. Look at Iraq - a decrepit army, a wrecked economy, and we are at the breaking point militarily from fighting there. Imagine that times ten. We would have to switch to more of a war economy, most certainly a draft.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
