It’s trite but true: where are the small government, less is more, laze faire republican/conservatives when officials like the Secretary of Education presume to dictate to me what is good or bad for MY children? My only problem with conservatives is they don’t act like conservatives.

I agree. I think the government should stick to paying journalists under the table, and coordinating their message with Fox News. This idea that they should support children's programming flies in the face of our need to be propagandized by the Republican Party. Adults, not children, need to be told what is good for them. Let's stop PBS now.
your point is well made, even in it's sarcasm. I'm not comfortable with Govt. propaganda. Equally, I'm not comfortable with ANY propaganda. At least when private citizens do it, I don't have to fund it.

Here's the big Q, I understand that the reason the feds. chose to fund advertisements was to counter the national media "filter" through which the admistrations positions must flow. Assuming those filters were perceived to warp/dilute the positions of the admin., how should the admin. get it's pure message out?

I assume the Secretary of Education considers herself a conservative, but yes, conservatives in and out of government.

Sorry, perhaps I should have prefaced my statements with a rhetorical device such as “for the most part, I’ll assume you’re behaving as a proper conservative. So for the most part, conservatives are not acting as conservatives.

For example: conservatives should support a woman’s right to choose with regard to abortion, they can be opposed to abortion – everyone’s opposed to abortion, for that matter – but an actual conservative will be opposed to the government interfering with what is a personal, private matter.

JDC,

Sounds like you are more of a libertarian. Seems like nowadays both parties are big government knows what's best for you, in different ways.

Republicans know whats best for other countries hence the empirical foreign policy. They also know what's best for a woman's womb. And they know that what's best for gays is a cure! They also know that what's best for all of us is to be protected from relatively harmless recreational drugs at a ridiculously high monetary and personal cost.

Democrats know whats best for working people and that is to support the poor regardless of merit. They know that its best for the government to provide for people rather than themselves. They know that maintaining an unequal racial playing field is in all our best interests. They know that everyone's a victim and that regulation is the way to prevent it.
