Denver Police threaten to arrest woman for anti-bush sticker

A Denver woman was confronted by a police officer yesterday and informed that unless she removed the F**k Bush bumper sticker from her truck she would be arrested.
Lucky for her, a reporter from the local newspaper overheard the encounter and took the issue public. Higher authorities in the police dept told the woman the officer had made a mistake and she had a right to make a politial statement with her bumper sticker.

I guess you'd have to call it trickle down fascism or some such thing. The enforcers at the bottom seem to be aware that dissent is no longer welcome in our society.

"I guess you'd have to call it trickle down fascism"

Why would you call it that?

Why must she be offensive to make a political point? Why must children read her vulgarities?

It's trickling down from the FBI. The FBI raided an apartment here in Denver because they heard the residents were going to NYC to protest the Republican convention.

The reason people have to be exposed to that language is that is what free speech means. In a free society people are able to state that they are repulsed by politicans.

Practically, it depends on whether or not there are laws governing the display of particular words in public in that neck of the woods. More generally, it also depends on whether you think it is right to make a robust political statement that is likely to offend others not because of it's political content, but because of the use of taboo words in public.

Personally, I object to children having to hear repugnant lies from odious politicians much more than the occasional 'bad word', which they will in all likelihood be using behind the parental back in any case.

If you're making a politically oriented speech, or any speech for that matter, why use language like that? Does she think she'll change anyones mind by using language like that?

No one said the speech wasn't protected. She, and others like her are simply attention whores. She can't argue on the facts of the debate, she simply must be rude and offensive.

Trickling down from the FBI??? Please. Maybe I can get a piece of the lawsuit action in that case. There is more to it then what you're posting.

Was it the F**K or the B**h that got them all riled-up?

Is a sticker with "F**K" illegal, whether or not it involves a "B**H"?

If it said, "Assassinate B**H" would that have been okay?

How do you spell "assassinate"?

Do you contend that freedom of speech is an absolute freedom?

Read Shrub's inaugural speech, freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

In this case, that sticker wasn't threatening or inciting violence, therefore the state has no compelling interest in infringing upon her civil right to express an opinion. BTW: That bumper sticker is all over the place around my blue state. Don't like it, then avert thine eyes tenderfoot.

The sticker should be outlawed immediately, since it clearly encourages the creation of Bush progeny. Nothing good can come from this...

Somehow I don't think that cop would've had a problem if it said "F--- Kerry"...
