I can't go with Bush for Villain because villain suggests intended, malicious evil and I really believe Bush THINKS that he is doing right [lying about Iraq intel being the big exception] . It is just that his thinking is so flawed and his scope so narrow that he is unable to understand what he is doing or the consequences of those actions. [and Jeez he throws like a girl!]
I think for villain you have to look at J Edgar Hoover [now here is a man that knew how to abuse power]
But for true American Villains you have to look at the heads of the Tobacco companies who knew their products caused cancer yet buried and obfuscated the data for 30 years, all for profits. They have all the elements. Intent, Greed, Longevity, Public Corruption, Congressional support from Tobacco States, Bribery, Profits.
For the past 15 years we have been seeing the same scenario play out with Oil companies and Climate/environment issues.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
