RE: WTF?: Church Plans to Bury the Ashes of Fetuses From Abortion Clinic
I think it is up to the person who has the abortion. If they want to bury the thing, by all means let them do so. I may be considered cold hearted by some, but I have a hard time mourning for a person who never existed and never acheived personhood. I have a great deal more compassion for those who have to make the decision to have an abortion, having grown up in the days when abortion was illegal and innocent young girls died at the hands of coat hanger wielding butchers and the poor were forced to raise children they did not want and could not afford.
I also remember the utter destruction of family bonds and the shutting away of young girls "in trouble" from first hand experience - a girl I grew up with got pregnant in high school, and her folks responded to the problem by renting her a slum flat and shutting her away in the bad part of town - it was all they could afford - to live out her pregnancy in shame and exile until the day came when her father could rip the kid away from her and give it to someone else. Forced childbirth is religious fascism and those who aspire to force women to have children against their will are fascists. I know, because I have seen it first hand.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
