Censorship at MBShop

I noted this morning that Mercedes Shop has now denied its users the right to discuss political topics. What's up with these guys? Why are they so afraid of people's opinions?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

I think the mods and owners are not actually afraid of political opinions but tired of whiners, whoever they are. Given BHD's response to the ban, he seems like a likely candidate as a whiner.

It's something like, Debating skills weak--ban your opponents.

Yeah -- that was funny. Kinda like Jack the Ripper applauding a knife ban...

If they don't want political discussion that's up to them. My beef was about the impartiality with which the censorship was applied. Now a partisan sniper has been replaced with a daiseycutter, but to be fair to the mods I really blame the intolerant underhand complainers. I'll be interested to see how they decide what's political and what isn't. I couldn't do that myself.

The whiners strategy has backfired, unless they are happy discussing lawnmowers and what's on tv. But perhaps they are.

Gee, I don't feel so "banned" now.

That shows a real Thought Police mentality. Those threads were a history of how people felt and an archive of a lot of good thinking and writing by a lot of people. Closing the threads, ok, but erasing them was an insult to the people that created and contributed to them.

Yes, deleting the threads was, IMO, pretty offensive. It says quite clearly that they don't give a stuff for any of that thinking or effort, it's just a bunch of angry morons having a fist fight.

We are still banned. Who cares? I don't.

Wanna talk some politics?

RE: Censorship at MBShop

Well, banning now becomes irrelevent for me, as I would not post on a open forum that it is not actually an open forum anyway. The whole thing just proves my original point - this has always been about content, not behavior. The Right Wing on the site was getting their asses kicked, so they whined a lot. End of story.

RE: Censorship at MBShop

One thing I dislike about MS is how thread starters can always delete their threads, even 500 posts and a month later. One particular poster there was infamous for doing just that. He would start threads, barely or not participate, then delete if he didn't approve of the ethnicity of a poster or he was getting his ass kicked in regard to his initial point. Deleting other peoples posts is really, really disrespectful, IMO...
