The Plot Against America (It's a NOVEL, relax)

Philip Roth's latest is a historical fiction piece in which Charles Lindbergh is nominated by the Republicans to run against FDR's 3rd term. He wins on an isolationist platform (anti-war) and stays out of WWII, signing treaties with Germany and Japan.

It's written from the point of view of young Philip Roth, who is 7 at the start of the book.

Anyone read it? I'm about 1/2 way through, and enjoying it thoroughly. I typically don't read fiction, but this is done well...

I've not heard of it. It sounds interesting, especially since my tolerance for war is extremely low.

RE: The Plot Against America (It's a NOVEL, relax)

I've been reading quite a bit of fiction that past few weeks (it runs in cycles). My latest is a rather peculiar offering titled Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars. I'm not quite 100 pages into it (800 pg.) and it's a bit tedious so far. Next up will be Deception Point by Dan Brown. Perhaps I'll put The Plot Against America next up.

From Roth interviews I've heard, and given that Lindbergh was a noted nazi sympathizer and anti-Semite, I don't think his rationale for signing the pact with Axis powers had anything to do with pacifism or neutrality. I look forward to picking up a copy myself.

yeah... I don't want to give too much away... but you've got the right idea Z.

I think its pretty well done, and it's a timely read.
