RE: Anyone see "What the $#%^@ do we know?" (movie)
Information theory is related to entropy through Shannon-Weiner. Thermodynamics is a key set of laws for understanding energy in any system, from the microscopic to the universe.
So, Information Theory is just another perspective, view, understanding of the interplay of energy, matter, space and time. You use the tools that fit the problem. If the problem your working on seems best approached through this or that venue, use this or that venue until it becomes untenable. Then pick up another tool. Eventually we'll get to a sort of "Leatherman" that will work for all classes of problems. At least that's the hope.
I'd like to see the movie. It sounds entertaining. I remember reading some things like, "The Tao of Physics" and stuff back when I was in physics. I thought it was fun, but kind of silly. Oh well, I wasn't that good at physics, either.
And that's why the call me,
