RE: If you ask me....
The way I heard it is his daddy was a poor civil servent who hit the marriage jackpot, a lesson apparently not lost on his son, but they lived on his dad's salary until mom got her inheritance, after which he lived the typical life of a multi-millionaress's only son, which one could only guess could not have been all that bad. On reaching adulthood, mommsie wished Kerry to learn the lessons of his father's deprived life, and Kerry then had to do pretty much the same as Daddo did until his mom died. During this time of his deprivation, his fine education was provided for and he got to enjoy his family's properties in the south of France and along Cape Cod, not exactly the life of a deprived middle class clod, and his living expenses and transportation in fine automobiles were all provided for by his family.
When he entered law practice he was able to take advantage of his family connections to make a fine living and enter politics. When he first became senator, he inherited a substantial sum, making him very wealthy, and being newly divorced at the time as well, lived the playboy life, banging all the young starlets he could get his hands on, as is the tradition among rich Massachsetts senators, married or otherwise. Apparently, after the death of his fellow senator John Heinz, there was just something about the newly widowed Ms. Heinz he found more alluring than Morgan Fairchild. One can only guess what that would be. Kerry went from being just another run of the mill senatorial millionaire, to being the richest man in the senate. Pass the ketchup, please.
