RE: Why I can't be a Democrat
Based on the sum of your posts to date, I think your personal priorities leave little in the way of federal resources to be dedicated to helping others. Your raw statements depict little but contempt for anyone from a minority group or anyone who has not made the same choices in life that you have. I can't understand how anyone believes the Republican Party is being careful with their money, or how they are working to help the less fortunate achieve a better life.
So, other than that I believe you are for helping all those unfortunate souls you mentioned only if it is funded by purely voluntary means and I vehemently disagree that Republicans are either good at managing our money, or that they can be compassionate and make wise choices for the bulk of our population who is less fortunate than you or I, I liked your post. It shows a new side of you, although I have noted a tendency to be compassionate for select individuals on your part in the past.
And, remember, you don't have to be a Democrat to vote for Kerry. I am not a registered anything and I vote for who ever I want, from either party. In this case it is a matter of simple logic though. Giving Bush the steering wheel again is like giving the keys to your 16 year old kid and letting him smash your car again and again. At some point you just have to say NO! For Bush the time has come for Americans to say NO! He is ruining the country on nearly every front. Ecologically, economically, militarily, international stature, international leadership, and on almost every meaningful domestic measure of performance. Our only response to any form of challenge is to become belligerent and bellicose. Given how awful our record under Bush's reign has been with regard to being right when there is a contentious issue, no other country trusts us any longer. We are equal to or lower on the international trust scale than the terrorists! When those who hold this view are such a majority of the rest of the world's population it is not time to be more belligerent and more bellicose. It is time to try to understand their view.
If you bother you will see we have become overly defensive, unable to admit the error of our ways, and therefore, predictably, expected to continue ruthlessly lashing out at the wrong targets. It is time for change. Bush has to go. Jim
