If we want men to take responsibility for child support, we better be willing to give them some responsibility for the abortion issue.

I believe that men are capable of fully grasping all of the issues surrounding child support. I do not believe that men are capable of fully grasping all of the issues surrounding abortion. This is a personal opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the management -- at least that's what my wife used to tell me.

By that argument, only people who have cancer should have a voice in its treatment. Only people who have children should have a voice in their education, only people who are in the military should have a voice in military matters.

I understand the special biological connection between mommy and baby. But to assume that mommy alone has the sole discretionary voice in the baby is interesting. Why does that change after the baby is born? How about an hour prior to birth?

When does society's interest in protecting the baby overwhelm mommy's mommy interest?

That's not my point at all. I'm just saying that women should legislate the (big picture) abortion issue. I'm not saying that women should have uncontested minute to minute discretionary powers over their children. I feel there are three basic categories that people fall into here: anti-abortion, pro-choice, unqualified. I am unqualified. As a man, I feel the abortion issue is basically none of my business.

As a human being, I think I have valuable and necessary input into laws governing decisions of life and death.

Here's a jus' seepose.

Man and woman don't want a child and take common precautions but woman gets pregnant anyway. This is a very common scenario.

#1 Man says he doesn't want to be a father and says to abort. Woman says she wants to bear and raise child.

What obligation does the man have for child support?

#2 Man says he wants to be a father and will rear the child without obligation from the mother.

What should the woman do?

#3 Either #1 or #2 are true but at some ambiguously late-term point, one or the other changes his or her mind.

What now?
