RE: If anyone could be president who would it be?
To this day I regret McCain didn't get his shot. It's like the fairy tale they tell you when you are a kid - the guy who sacrifices everything except life itself for his country returns home a hero, gets elected to the Senate where he is a cantakerous maverick who kisses no ass, and then goes on to be President, and we would have had a president in the tradition of Andy Jackson and Teddy Roosevelt.
It should have happened, but it didn't because of dirty politics and vast wealth, in other words, the good guy lost. I really felt this was the beginning of a decline in America that has lead us to where we are today, a government whose understanding of war is limited and a leader who is out of his league.
The Republican electorate went along with the highway robbery of McCain's rightful nomination, and they got the inept leader they deserved. It is obvious that McCain would have been the right choice for a 9-11 world, and he owed nothing to the Republican religious extremists, so we would have skipped a lot of devisive grief there too. I hope I get one more chance to vote for the guy, even tho I am sorely disappointed by his ass-kissing of Bush.
