Camera catching people running red light.

Hay guys/gal.

Regarding camera catching people running red lights. Are those camera suppose to catch people who is make a left hand turn (or any turn) in a red light.

Had anyone ever heard of someone who got a ticket making a turn in a red light with one of those cameras.

I believe a left hand turn on red will be caught, but a right hand turn won't be.

RE: Camera catching people running red light.

A friend of mine got a ticket in the mail in Colorado. He opened it up, and discovered the photo enclosed verifying the red light and the jeep in the intersection. Humorously, it also verified his elderly father driving the jeep during a recent visit!

They just put in one of those cameras up the street from me. I think the diesel smoke screen might protect us from the electric eye... ha ha..

RE: Camera catching people running red light.

The way it works, at least in Ontario, Can., is that as long as your front wheels has passed over the white line marking on the pavement, before the light turns red you are not considered entering the intersection illegally. You can make a left turn, a right turn or proceed straight trough. However if the front wheels have not passed the marking on the pavement before the light turns red you are breaking the law the by entering the intersection. The direction of your travel makes no difference. There is one exception in Ontario. Here, turning right at solid red is allowed as long as you bring your vehicle to a full stop before the white line and the opposing traffic does not have a green arrow allowing them to turn to the same direction you are turning.
Any other case results in a fine sent in the mail to the registered owner of the vehicle for the amount of
CAN $190.00. Guilty 'till proven innocent right? [:D]
However no conviction will be registered againts the owner of the vehicle, insurance companies will not be notified of the infraction and demerit points will not be lost.

Yes it's true that it's illegal, but the camera has no way of telling if you made an illegal right on red turn, since those are legal as long as you come to a complete stop (actually I suppose it varies regionally. Here in SoCal right on red is legal. Back on Long Island, it isn't). But the camera can't tell if you come to a complete stop, so you shouldn't get a ticket for an illegal right on red.

Actually it it has a built in speed detector. When the picture arrives it shows you the time, date, location and your speed wich you entered the intersection with. I saw the picture my friend received.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
