Roadrunner loses again

I’m sitting here watching a little bit of nature play itself out.
A covey of Quail is moving around to the front where I put out birdseed every morning. They get as big as chickens, and I go through about 80lbs. of seed a week. Well here comes Mr. Roadrunner – he’s hiding in some tall grass out by the satellite dishes.
These damn things are mean – they’re also thick around here. Everybody knows they kill rattlesnakes, but they kill everything else also – mostly the babies though. I’m rootin for the Quail. I think they all made it this time.

There's more Quail than ants around here. Roadrunners too, but not nearly as numerous. I saved a Roadrunner from an attacking Turkey Vulture a couple of weeks ago -- scared the hell outta both of 'em. There's plenty of rattlesnakes and scorpions around here and Roadrunners eat 'em all. They're AOK in my book!

550 feet high, but it doesn't scare the scorpions away...

RE: Roadrunner loses again

We have coyotes around here like some places have field mice. I opened my front door a couple mornings ago, and was greeted by five of the little critters. Of course, they ran like hell when they saw my dog. I can tell you they have no apparent interest in feeding on Quail, who show no fear of coyotes at all. I haven't actually seen a coyote/roadrunner encounter.
