I think it's important to break the two party stranglehold on our democratic principles, but I'm also sympathetic to the argument stressing the need to remove the Neo-Con machine in the White House. Given the absurd nature of our Electoral College, if I lived in a hotly contested "Swing State" I might just vote for the Ketchup Kid (and hate myself for it). Voting your conscience is sometimes a matter of both heart and mind, and may require a certain sense of strategic planning. Personally, I WILL be voting third party for president, but that's just me. I'll also be voting for several Libertarians down ballot in protest, because I don't like their entrenched incumbent opponents.
And that's exactly my position. Colorado has a tight race - both candidates come here every other week it seems. I don't like Kerry much, but he's a damn sight better than Bush, and I'm going to vote for him. I would have preferred to vote for Dean or Kucinich, and I voted for Nader in 2000.

Colorado also has a ballot initiative that would divide our electoral votes according to the popular vote, and I also intend to vote in favor of that. Some say it's meaningless unless all the states do it, however that will not happen all at once, especially not from the federal government.

An initiative that splits the electoral votes according to their popular tallies would at least eliminate the effective disenfranchisment of those who dissent from the majority in the solid red/blue states. That would represent a positive step in the right direction.

Hell yeah, O3D and Z.
I live in VA and plan on voting for Kerry even though its pointless. It would make sense for the Electors to represent ALL of the state's voters as opposed to just the majority.

I'm voting for Kerry this year because Bush has to go. I'll vote for a 3rd party candidate in 2008, unless John McCain's running.

Your vote would not be pointless - Virginia is very much in play.

Kuan, the only thing I can say is - what is the moral choice here? Does it outweigh the choice one would make based on political convictions? From day one of the Iraq fiasco I did not feel Saddam was a threat. Millions of people felt the same way I did. We were overruled in a nation manipulated by fear, by this despicable man and his stooges.

It should be obvious to anyone now that Bush waged a war of choice, not necessity. I believe my real outrage with this administration started the day I visited robertfisk.com and saw what we had done to innocent people in Iraq - I saw in human terms what all these great abstract pronouncments we all make about what we believe about this and that amounted to in real humand terms. Fathers carrying their dead children, children blasted, with their legs blown off, mothers in agony. Young boys blinded or lying in hospital beds with no arms or legs, screaming babies with hoses protruding from their missing guts. All of these people victims of what I consider a criminal act of illegal agressive war waged by these oil industry titans, Bush and Cheney.

This election is a test of our basic human morality. If you want to vote based on conviction, that is your choice, but if it means you are helping Bush stay in office, you have made a moral choice as much as a political choice. This man unleashed the American War Machine on an unarmed civilian population on flimsy pretext. Children, playing in playgrounds, sitting in schools, and out of no where, with no warning massacred by cruise missles and 2000 lb bombs, machine gunned at checkpoints, killed and maimed by cluster bomblets that look like toys.

I myself, refuse to aid ANYONE ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME who is complicent in the mass murder of innocent people. We should not just vote, but protest at every possible opportunity the acts of these butchers:

and anyone who equates it to "the cowards way out" is blind to his own moral cowardice to do whatever he can to stop this man before he gets any more people killed in his drive to make corporate oil fascists the rulers of this planet.

RE: Michael Badnarik: "Voting for the lesser of two evils is the coward's way out"

By Ron's logic, if a Libertarian were to be elected President then there would be at least a few Libertarians in the Congress and Senate.

Our problem is the two party stranglehold on our electoral process. Keep voting the lesser of two evils and you'll just perpetuate the bigger injustice which led to this whole mess in the first place. Don't vote Badnarik if you don't like him. But I'm not going to vote Kerry just because I don't Bush. Both parties are complicit in suffocating true Democracy.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of voting the lesser of two evils. I just don't feel it's a moral virtue to sacrifice your beliefs, whatever they are, for short term gain. A vote for not is a vote for naught.

All hail the Sixteen Men of Tain!

If you really want to support the libertarian platform, make sure you vote for them in your local and regional races -- that's the kind of support they need right now. I don't know about MN, but libs are all over the place in local elections here in AZ and I'll definitely support them. I don't know how many will win, but at least folks will get used to seeing them on the ballots, which is an important step.
