I don't know why he has dragged S-corps into this. Hell, Wall Street is trying to figure it out. My company is an S-corp. Its used by contractors and small family-owned businesses. An S-corp has to distribute all its profits as income to somebody by the end of a taxable year so that they show either zero profit or a loss, and therefor owe zero corporate tax. Those who receive the income pay taxes on it at personal income tax rates, and it generally works out to a big savings versus paying at standard corporate tax rates, and in addition you get all the writeoffs a regular corporation gets, like buying yourself a nice Jaguar as a corporate car so you can write off the payments and the gas. Bush seems to be saying something utterly hypocritcal (big surprise) when he claims to be pro-small business yet hints he will solve the surplus by ending this tax treatment for small business. It will drive a lot of small businesses out of business. He may be saying something totally different. I really think the guy is doing dope.
Quite right -- Bush attacks Kerry's $200,000 income tax rollback, then alludes to addressing tax advantages of S-corps -- what an imbecile. While many may not care too much, folks like me and KV find this alarming to say the least. One thing that distinguishes S-corps from other type of corporations is that S-corps can be privately and individually owned and operated. Every other type of corporation requires at least two officers.

RE: Who won?

As far as the debate goes, Kerry won handily in regard to both style and substance. Bush appeared to fare better than he actually did due to lowered expectations as a result of the first debate. People were impressed by the fact that he actually seemed lucid this time around. That fact will level the playing field and work against him in the final debate.

RE: Who won?

I hope every small business owner in the country heard him loud and clear. I just don't get why your average small business owner hasn't figured out they do better under Democrat admins than they do the Repubs. One of the main reasons I support the Dems is because the healthcare burden is becoming insurportable for small businesses - call it Socialism if you want, but we badly need a national health insurance company or a way for small business to pool resources. Republican admins are about one thing - big corporations.

Oh, I wouldn't go that far. I'll take Reagan over Carter any day -- the last clear examples of true party-affiliated presidents we've had. The only thing democrat about Clinton was his libido, and Bush is just a flat-out freak.

ok, then I'll take libido over flat out freak anyday. The only thing I remember about the Carter years is you couldn't buy Coors east of Texas.

RE: Who won?

I recall having several muni bonds from the tail end of the Carter years that paid 14% - 18% interest tax-free! Ah, for the good old days...... This wasn't a good time for folks who didn't have money to throw around though.....

RE: Who won?

That would have been me. Actually, the Carter years were the glory days of Texas. Oil was high, everyone was moving here, and there was tons of drilling activity so everyone made money while the rest of the country suffered. Reagan's election was a disaster for Texas. Reagan threw Texas into a 10 year recession when he took the tax of imported oil and it became cheaper to buy it frm Saudi than drill it here. Real Estate collapsed, banks failed, the whole shebang. I actually went back to New England during that time because times were so tough here. I was amazed when I moved back in the mid-90s that the state had gone Republican. The reason: things were so motivated by racism that Texans would rather vote for the guy who bankrupted them instead of the guy who wanted his kids to go to school with black children. WHat a legacy.

Post debate Zogby Poll shows extremely close popular vote, but Kerry leading substantially in electorals. Biggest baddest, bad news for Bush, 20 point lead in Ohio has evaporated, now Kerry holding a 1 pt lead:

Ohio:

In addition, arkansas has gone from solid Bush to possible battleground. Check this chart out:

Virgina! Thats a surprise, to battleground status:
