How Democrats See Things: A Double Standard?

Did you vote for and support Bill Clinton as president?

How does George Bush’s decisions and actions compare with that of Clinton’s while he was president? This is how the democrats see it:

Clinton awards Halliburton no-bid contract in Yugoslavia - good...
Bush awards Halliburton no-bid contract in Iraq - bad...
Clinton spends 77 billion on war in Serbia - good...
Bush spends 87 billion in Iraq - bad...
Clinton imposes regime change in Serbia - good...
Bush imposes regime change in Iraq - bad...
Clinton bombs Christian Serbs on behalf of Muslim Albanian terrorists-good...
Bush liberates 25 million from a genocidal dictator - bad
Clinton bombs Chinese embassy - good...
Bush bombs terrorist camps - bad...
Clinton commits felonies while in office - good...
Bush lands on aircraft carrier in jumpsuit - bad...
No mass graves found in Serbia - good...
No WMD found Iraq - bad...
Stock market crashes in 2000 under Clinton - good...
Economy on upswing under Bush - bad...
Clinton refuses to take custody of Bin Laden - good...
World Trade Centers fall under Bush - bad...
Clinton says Saddam has nukes - good...
Bush says Saddam has nukes - bad...
Clinton calls for regime change in Iraq - good...
Bush imposes regime change in Iraq - bad...
Terrorist training in Afghanistan under Clinton - good...
Bush destroys training camps in Afghanistan - bad...
Milosevic not yet convicted - good...
Saddam turned over for trial - bad...

I guess it all depends on how you "see" things.

Every year an independent tax watchdog group analyzes the average tax burden on Americans, and then calculates the "Tax Freedom Day." This is the day after which the money you earn goes to you, not the government. This year, tax freedom day was April 11th. That's the earliest it has been since 1991. Its latest day ever was May 2nd, which occurred in 2000. Notice anything interesting about those dates?

Recently, John Kerry gave a speech in which he claimed Americans are actually paying more taxes under Bush, despite the tax cuts. He gave no explanation and provided no data for this claim. Another interesting fact: Both George Bush and John Kerry are wealthy men. Bush owns only one home, his ranch in Texas. Kerry owns 4 mansions, worth several million dollars each. (His ski resort home in Idaho is an old barn brought over from Europe in pieces. Not your average A-frame). Bush paid $250,000 in taxes this year; Kerry paid $90,000. Does that sound right? The man who wants to raise your taxes obviously has figured out a way to avoid paying his own.

The election of both of those men has me utterly convinced that the American public should be required to pass certain criteria in order to obtain a voting license.

I wouldn't care if it was a democrat or republican screwing us over in Iraq. And I didn't approve of what Clinton did either. But you seem to try to equate their policies, and it seems like quite a stretch. Pray tell, what felonies did Clinton perpetrate? Personally I'd lie too about an illicit affair if I thought I could get away with it - some of the republican administration consistently lie about policy.

And Bush has spent $119 billion with another $87 billion earmarked for Iraq. No cost comparison there. No Americans died in Kosovo. We had an exit plan as well. That's almost more of a stretch than comparing WWII with Iraq.

You realize that almost all over Kerry's wealth is from his wife, right?

The economy's in an upswing? Is that why I've become unemployed? Is that why I just had to pay $55 for a tank of gas? Is that why my father, who has been a bond broker for the past 20 years, is in severe debt? Odd.

I don't remember CLinton claiming that Serbia had WMDs.

No mass graves? I guess the bodies of 11,000 Ethnic Albanians piled on top of each other doesn't count as mass graves? Odd.

And for the record, I was against Clinton's war. But to compare it to the current catastrophe is just absurd.

I don't recall Clinton lying to us for why we went to Kosovo - also I challenge that 77 billion figure. That may have been the cost for the entire NATO operation, borne by about 10 rich nations, but it certainly was not the amount of money required to pull off that operation.

Serbia and Kosovo were undergoing the same type of problems that started World War I, and the fighting threatened to fracture NATO itself, since two of its members, Greece and Turkey, were on the brink of going to war over it. Smashing Serbia was a legimate use of power, even when one does not even consider the genocide factor. In addition, the key difference is we did not occupy a hostile country, the Serbians were left to go about their business. Instead we stationed troops in those countries that saw us as protectors from the Serbian fascists. Haven't heard of a lot of roadside bombs going off in Sarajevo, have we?

I've also been told by my military friends that being assigned to duty in the former Yugoslavia is considered the equivalent of winning a free Southern European vacation in a place with Old World sights and charm, friendly women and where a dollar stretches far from bar to bar, while an assignment to Iraq, well, we know how the soldiers look at that. The reason? Good planning by Clinton and Clark led to peace there. We now know we got the opposite in Iraq.

You can not compare Kosovo with Iraq. The two cultures have a different way of thinking. Kosvo is a little more western than Iraq. There is more poverty in the middle east. When I lived in Saudi Arabia, I saw folks use chicken bones to brush their teeth and they lived in tents. The rich lived in houses. War is bad, but all the killing that Saddam did is justification enough for war.

From History, we learned that a lot of ideals from Western civilization came from the middle east. They even had women in political power. It is sad how they misused their religion to turn the middle east back wards a few centuries.

War now, education later.

Oh man! Here I was thinking that the US put all the radical conservatives into power in the middle east! Incredible.

I agree it should be in the form of a GLOBAL TEST.
