RE: What exactly does this mean, Mr. Cheney?

Every analysis of what the ulterior reason could possibly be points to only one thing - the desire for a contiguous land mass that stretches from the Mediterrean to the Persian Gulf - Iraq and Syria. One must stop and realize what Americans bring to the oil market - we do not sell oil, we sell oil field services and pipeline technology. I hate to bring up what is becoming a cliched boogeyman, but the top company in that field is Halliburton. In addition, work of that type requires billions of dollars in subcontract work, so the awarding of plums to insiders, mostly politically connected oil-industry Republican good-ole-boys, is also the order of the day. One of the weird things about living in Houston is that everybody here knows exactly what this war is about, while the rest of Koolaid Kountry lives in the Bush-created fantasy world.

The strategic implications are obvious:

A network of pipelines constructed within that land mass makes the Suez Canel and its accompanying political and toll tariff burden obsolete.

It eliminates the current high cost of paying transfer taxes - right now the existing pipelines must transit a number of different countries as oil winds its way from Arabia and Iran to the Med, with a tax per barrel paid at each border. If we control this land mass, the two oil giants that surround it, Iran, Arabia, will have to pay transfer taxes to our puppet government, which will then be looted of this money to pay the maintenance costs of the network.

It allows strategic plug in points for emerging and existing oil fields in Russia and the former Soviet Republics.

It allows the ability to control oil prices by turning the Iraqi spiggot that the whole thing sits on top of on and off, increasing and decreasing supply at our whim.

The terminal points on the Med and on the Persian Gulf can also be used to supply refined petroleum products in reverse flows from China to Europe or vs versa, and to and from Gulf Coast America to the Far East, eliminating the need to transverse the Panama Canel.

It gives us control over who gets oil first.

If Iraq and Syria, the two countries required to form this single land mass, are subjugated, whatever is happening in Israel that used to affect oil markets will make little difference to us anymore.

It insures a steady supply of drilling and exploration contracts in the Iraqi oil fields, which due to a century of warfare are among the least explored in the world, to American companies. This is the real reason "only those countries who participated in the Coalition get the rebuilding (code word for drilling) contracts". Fact is, of the Coalition countries, only two have oil services companies that can handle the jobs, the US and Britian.

It creates the conditions for the inflow of investment dollars to build huge refinieries directly in the oil fields, eliminating the need (bad news Houston folks) for crude to travel to Houston to be refined into gasoline by cheap, docile local labor vs unionized refineries in the US. Allawi even alluded to this in his speech to the Iraqi Assembly two days ago.

But most of all, it puts US power right smack dab in the middle of the oil flow between China and Europe. This is the heart of the neo-con plan. If any military power arises in Europe or Asia that attempts to rival us we will simply shut off their oil supply.
For our own Wehrmacht, it assures an easily transported and militarily protected supply of oil to the US, Britain, Canada and Australia, elimating the threat of oil embargoes, and in the process giving the English speaking countries the advantage in any war or global conflict.
It is the ultimate guarantee of American hegemony over the planet.

Conclusion: this war had nothing to do with terrorism, and everything to do with oil. Terrorism gave the oil oligarchs, one of whom is currently the Vice President of the United States, the excuse they needed to make their dream come true. Why would any big time politico want to discuss it? Whoever pulls it off rules the world. Nazism is better practiced quietly as possible.
