"Gay Marriage" issue dies with a thud
Early in the campaign, Karl Rove and Pat Robertson said they were going to make "gay marriage" a central issue of the campaign so they could take their tired old "family values" horse for another ride, which they hoped to use as a cover-up of their failed war and economic policies. The idea, of course, was to take the issue of gay marriage out of the hands of the states and make it illegal for gays to marry thruout the country, enshrining bigotry and discrimination against certain people in the US Constitution, something not done since the infamous 18th Century article that defined a black male as "three-fifths of a man". The whole idea was to paint Kerry as a Sodomite-loving sinful family hater.
Problem is, the scheme blew up in there faces. Members of their own party refused to support it. Today, just as happened in the Senate, 57 Republicans refused to join with Tom Delay's homophobe Christian Right stooges, and the proposed Amendment was torpedoed in the House. Do you think this issue is over for this election? Aren't you glad it is? Do you think America has accepted gay marriage?
