John Boy in the background behind "Hanoi Jane."
And this guy was "proud to serve" in Vietnam?? He was a freakin war protestor!
What kind of Commander in Chief would he make for our country with that kind of a background?
Come on, this is pathetic. Have you ever been photographed somewhere you'd rather not have been? So imagine yourself serving as a volunteer officer, getting shot, and getting sent home after what you'd seen. Imagine feeling a deep sense of dis-ease with the incredibly horrid things you'd witnessed, and a deep sense of let-down in your government for not having shared the truth of the circumstances of the war with you or anyone else. Imagine knowing that kids, babies, women, men, and who knows what else were being raped, killed, burned alive, all in the name of a fear that the government had created to scare the crap out of the public. Maybe you see through the garbage. Maybe you decide that in a democracy, the way to make a change in things you don't like is to stand up and advocate for your position. Maybe you share your first hand accounts from the war, and start a group of vets who have had similar experiences. You think that the world cannot ignore a whole group. Maybe to try to express the injustice, you band with other groups, not all of whom you agree with completely... but with whom you stand in solidarity against the injustice of the war. Later, you serve your country as a congressman.... and when all of the rediculous things about which you were so passionate in your youth start to return like a bad dream due to incompetance and abject stupidity at the highest level of the government, you decide it is time to run for President.
A man who has actually been through a war is much less likely to willingly visit the horrors of war upon our own citizens, let alone those of supposed enemies like Iraq. And if the decision needs to be made, it will be made to be decisive, quick, and complete. No quagmires. No half-assed occupations. Introspection is a VIRTUE, not a vice. W would be wise to learn this.
