RE: Happiness is...
No question it's my son (he's 9) and I going on a road trip together. We just got back from PA and the New Jersey shore (1000 mile R/T) and every minute of it was pure ecstacy for me. He is such a laid back, appreciative kid that all I want to do is make him happy.
What's really funny is that he lives at the beach with his mother, but it's Massachusetts idea of the beach, you know, natural unspoiled beauty, sand dunes, the ocean. In other words, totally boring to a 9 year old. I used to spend my time at the Jersey shore as a kid. To see my son in the same place, riding the rides, winning prizes, eating too much cotton candy and body surfing all day (the water is NJ is about 20 degrees warmer than the polar region known as MA.) is an indescribable feeling. What's even better is his reaction, he thinks whoever "invented" the Jersey shore is a genius.
God I love that kid.
Now don't get me started on his sister. 11 1/2 years old with the biggest attitude you ever met. As my friends say, a "chip off the old block" (and I ain't talking about me). Love her too, just in a different way.
