RE: Best things / Worst things about where you live

santa maria california, central california is the produce capitol of the US. who picks the produce?
illegals from down south way, these people seem to have no respect for the community, they are migrant, they go from seasonal pick to seasonal pick and leave a trail of filth.yes the climate is top notch, very consistently mild, no smog and a lot of open space,some big time auto industry stuff close, allen johnson of nhra fame lives about 6 blocks from me,talk about a shop, everthing you need to build and maintain engines, tilton engineering is about 5 minutes drive, they build the best carbon/carbon clutches in the world and brakes and hydraulic delivery systems, in general in good place to live

IN

best:

actually this is a very conservative state and i think that's good in this case;
Hoosier hopsitality;
cheap;
good place to rear kids;
no veh. inspections;
one license plate,
not OH;
traffic is not bad at all;
4 seasons, autumn is especially nice.
Pacers;
our own time zone...LOL
Purdue; ND;

worst:

pollution; air/water one of the worst...
no mtns;
not enough culture (but it's getting better)
not enough outdoor oportunities,
summer humidity;
people can't drive in the snow;
Colts;
IU;
very low environmental awereness - I69;

Really? I thought the WI State Fair was lame. Then again, my only comparison is the MN State Fair which claims to be the largest in the country. What a blast, beer, car shows, throw up rides, babes, agricultural equipment, radio/TV show remotes, beer, freak shows (actually those went away about 20 yrs ago), beer, people watching, cheese curds, corn dogs, yumm...
Well, I thought your fair was a great time. I've been there so many times, I could find my way around blindfolded. I guess it all depends on where you're coming from. I even saw Henny Youngman there one year -- he must have been about 112 years old. I'll tell you the best annual outdoor event in the entire area -- the Renaissance Fair in Bristol, IL -- if you've never been, you don't know what you're missing!

East Wenatchee, Washington (Eastern Washington)

Best:
6 months of nice weather
A lot of Seattle people moving in, causing improved roads and services
The Mighty Columbia River
Mountains, Mountains, Mountains
Agriculture, fresh fruit and wildlife

Worst:
6 months of bad weather
A lot of Seattle area people moving in, causing a lot of prime agricultural land being developed
Traffic jams on poorly designed intersections caused by people moving in from Seattle (will be fixed by 2010)
Stupid People
Losts of Pollen and allergians from agricultural activities

Southeast Michigan:

Best of:
+in the right areas there are a multitude of ethnic restaurants
+Fall is gorgeous where they haven't hacked down all the trees (mainly north of here)
Unfortunately I can't think of too much else

Worst of
-job market sucks
-too much stigma on the muslim community in DB heights
-the big 3 screwed this state hard, and left before we woke up
-music scene is sophmoric
-not enough diesel enthusiasts
-not enough eco-enthusiasts (ie. burn your trash, throw it out the window of a moving car, throw it out period)
-6 months of winter/ 6 months of road work
-poor to no public transportation
-state income tax
-murphy's law is amplified in this state for some reason, especially in the winter when you don't have time or tools.

I'd move if my fam didn't live here.

Dallas

W. Fucking Steamy Heat From Hell
Property Tax From Hell
Dysfuntional City gov't
Mosquitos of Death

B. Oppurtunity, Amenities, Highland Park, nice skyline, good shopping, nice growth, modern, safe for investments

Santa Fe

B. Weather is ideal for 8 mos of the year, laid back, snow, mountains, hiking, biking, three car clubs, dog type of town, very low property tax

W. No one speeds, no one stops for any stop signs at all, most of the service industry are rip off artists

Boy, post #1 was a kinder, gentler individual wasn't it?

Tulsa

Best of:
+ Well-kept secret.
+ Grade "A" place to raise a family.
+ None of that big-town (cough DALLAS cough) snobbery or fake titty obsession.
+ Good infrastructure - easy to get around, short commutes, decent airport, etc.
+ Built on oil money = big-town amenities. Arts, fine dining, recreation, etc.
+ Close to lots of bigger cities. Dallas, OKC, KC, STL, Austin, are all a short day's drive.

Worst of:
+ Bible belt. Churches here are what corner bars are to St. Louis.
+ Shoddy state & local government. Way too many taxes, poorly run.
+ Allergy capital of the universe.
+ Employment. Hit & miss...largely because of item 2 (shitheads run the place).
+ Lots of people who reinforce the dipshit redneck stereotype (easy to spot, they all drive Fords with OU stickers or license plate frames.

Worst: The screech owls. Can't get sleep with all them screech owls and the chickens. Damn them roosters crowing at 4:30 in the morning!
Best: The trailer denizens-tight women with loose morals. I especially like the oral in moral.
