It appears to me that many of you that post here with a liberal view are at the extreme end of the political spectrum. I understand that some might see me as being on the opposite end of the spectrum. However, I'm very curious on what your (the liberal posters here) take was on last night's speech. Kerry appeared sperate himself as far away from the Hate Bush crowd as possible. Your thoughts?
I though Kerry made a good speech. He didn't come off as much as a "Herman Munster" as I thought he would. I think having his PT-109 comrades on stage was a powerful image. And I though his reenacment video was well shot and well put together. I thought that his "hawkish" tone was completely disingenuine. My personal belief is that he's already been painted as a flip-floper and that much of the undecides will see this sudden "pro-war" stance as such. Regardless the next 100 days will be fun. I look forward to the debates.
Chuck, how can you say that Kerry and Bush are the same on the War and on Terror? Kerry has spent years in the Senate voting against bills and spending that would have strengthened the millitary and intellegence infrastructure. Last night's speech was eliquint but I thought very phony. He voted for the war, but then back pedalled on what he actually voted for. Now he's a Hawk?
It was a baited question. I've read Chuck's posts for a while, and I zeroing in on the AMG comment. I'm guessing that Chuck's Share to pay for socialized medicine would be much more than his current costs.
I'm in favor of some type of safetynet medical care system for everyone. We actually do have something like that right now, but emergency rooms are far from effiecient. I think tort reform, tigheter controls on the use of technology, and more of an emphasis on vacinations and preventive medicine, and tigher borders would all help the effort and make some type of socialiazed option palletable to those who currently oppose the idea. My only fear is a single system that everyone must take part in, like in Canada. There's a reason so many Canadians go to Detroit of all places to have certain procedures performed.
This discussion is far too civil. I can't wait for it to melt down into partisan namecalling. However, on the topic of the post, I have not seen or heard the speech in its entirity. It was an attempt to appear centrist and I agree that Bush will do the same.
There is nothing to be gained by preaching to the converted at the risk of alienating the undecided. The only twist for Kerry is the Nader factor. If Kerry appears too centrist then Ralph will rear his ugly head and start wooing the far left .
Probably nothing that Kerry could say would entice MikeV to vote Democrat.
For me, the only thing that Bush could say to get me to vote Republican is "I quit and John McCain is the new candidate"
Oh, and thanks the Eliquint clarification. It's that whole "hooked on phonics thing." You're my Scholarly friend.
Engnenk, I agree with everything in your post. With the exception of the McCain thing. Then again if the Dems were running Lieberman/Miller they'd have my vote.

Well you really have to question a news article which immediately refers to the Soviet Union as the "evil empire". Don't you think there might just be a little bit of bias there?
Have a look at the real story behind these distortions on Kerry's voting record.

I think it's a good thing that it's civil, it's more helpful than everyone stubbornly sticking to a (sometimes totally bogus) point and bashing each other.
