RE: My dad's new car
The grille on the car in the pic is different that what is on the US-bound cars. Personally, I have always thought highly of Audi cars, although I think they're a little over-priced for basically being upscale VWs. Unless you go for a Quattro-equipped car. The original super-car was in fact the Audi Quattro, made famous during the WRC in the 80s.
As far as the Phaeton, I think VW is taking a huge gamble marketing the car, especially in the US, which I believe VW is expecting to be its most successful and lucrative market. A $90,000 VW will NOT be purchased by the people that have that sort of disposable income. The main reason is that although it may be a technological marvel, it is still viewed as 'just' a Volkswagen; the enormous VW badges in the front and back do little to detract that type of thinking, either.
The Touareg concept makes (slightly) more sense, since the US market (see reasoning above), is hungry for SUV type vehicles. Perfect example is the Porsche Cayenne, which you see a lot of driving around.
That is a lot for only $0.02 worth, huh!
