What's your favorite Single Malt ?

I quit collecting single malt scotch after bottle #85. I can safely say my favorite SMS is the 1964 Black Bowmore.

During the Dot.com craze, all the Yuppie scum were bidding this set of three limited edition bottlings (29, 30, & 31 year old) up exponentially. I remember seeing the price as high a +US$3,000 per bottle before the tech sector bubble burst... -LOL- Average price now is approx. US$1,500 to $1,700 & higher overseas...

Could you recommend a good single malt in the $20 range?
So tell us Chuck -- What kind of scotch do you prefer? [;)]

Here's several "less expensive" sms that come to mind between $20-$60 per 750 ML bottles. Hope this small list is helpful. Try a few & tell me what you think...

Lagavulin Scotch 16 Year: 99 PTS BEVERAGE TESTING INSTITUTE. Outstanding aromas fill the glass with smoky peat, Sherry wood and sea salt; extraordinarily perfumed moderately full-bodied with a viscous mouthfeel. $60

Bowmore Scotch Darkest Sherry Finish: 96-100 PTS WINE ENTHUSIAST. Generous aromas of mocha, dried fruits, and peat. A full-bodied sherry with a fruity finish. A fine after-dinner style. $50

Cragganmore Scotch 12 Year: 92 PTS WINE ENTHUSAIST. The nose is fragrant with herbs, fruit, newly mown grass and a touch of cinnamon; the body is medium; the finish is long and spicy $44

Glenmorangie Scotch Port Wood 12 Year: 93 PTS BEVERAGE TESTING INSTITUTE. Reminiscent of dried stone fruit, smoke, sweet tea leaf; full sweet vinous nose leads a minty sweet entry with a subtle candied fruit accent; very complex. $35

Glenmorangie Scotch Sherry Wood 12 Year: 94 PTS BEVERAGE TESTING INSTITUTE. Reminiscent of sherry, smoke, honey, dried flowers, nuts; big, rich Oloroso kissed aromas lead a smooth, sweet sherry entry that expands on the palate. $35

Macallan Scotch 12 Year: 92 PTS WINE ENTHUSIAST. Macallan 12 Yr Old has hints of sweet cream and vanilla due to aging in used sherry casks from Spain. $35

Tobermory 10 Yr Old Single Malt: Tobermory has not only a hint of peat but also fruity and spirity notes in the nose. It has a dry, gentle palate and a soft, sweetish finish. $30

Blended

Famous Grouse Scotch 12 Year Reserve: A blend of scotches that include Macallan, Highland Park, and Tamdhu among others. $30

Pinch Scotch 15 Year: A blend of premium 15 year old scotches gives Pinch it's ultra smooth taste and finish. $26

Johnnie Walker Scotch Black 12-year-old: Premium blended scotch that is pleasantly smooth and rich with great hints of heather and smoke. (I use it to flavor my beans & weenie recipe) $23

Johnnie Walker Scotch Red: One of the most vibrant and flavorful blend scotches in the marketplace, the Johnnie Walker red delivers an almost alluring smokiness with a palate cleansing briskness; superb! $20
