Civility is always a casualty in these threads...
merouby is not a liberal Arab sympathizer, he is an Arab Muslim, which seems to create irreconciliable differences between you and I on the one side, and him on the other.
However, declaring him "subhuman in the brain" is uneducated and inaccurate. He is living in the real world right now and has for some time. His world is not your world. His dad has worked for the UN, to whom we owe the resolution which resulted in the creation of Israel. I consider him to be an extremist, as he considers me an extremist. He sees no legitimacy in Israel's existence, while it is apparent to me that it is legitimate and necessary.
I certainly am an extremist when it comes down to Israel and it's security, and I reject his claims of the Israeli government being a murderous one. I've lived in Ramat aviv for a while, studied a bit over there. In my mind, there is little doubt who is and is not a murderer. That the western world would give ANY credibility to Arafat is beyond my comprehension. It seems that everyone has forgotten the Jewish school kids he is responsible for assassinating in a terrorist attack in western Europe. The images of Munich's olympic massacre are still in my mind, along with the numerous attacks I have witnessed in the 70s and 80s in Europe that can be attributed to the PLO. What we also know is that Saddam paid the families of palestinians willing to explodes themselves killing innocent people indiscriminantly in the streets, the bus, the coffee shops, etc... What we also know is that most, if not all, of the countries surrounding the only true democracy in the middle east would want it gone at any cost. merourby may yet contest that it is a democracy, but facts prove otherwise. There are Arabs who are (voting) Israeli citizens and their rights are no more curtailed than that of minorities in this country or others...
Fundamentalists are a cancer and we need to deal with them swiftly or be threatened in our very existance.
Even though merouby and I cannot see eye to eye on many issues, it would not justify my calling him subhuman, uneducated or other. I may, however, question his biased views. As a matter I have, and the discussions were pretty heated as I recall!
We can't all get along, but merouby deserves some good measure of respect, even when his views really stink. At least, you'll have to give him that he has more geo-political knowledge and historical perspective than many on this and other boards.
