This is where I have a hard time following you.
the theories of the (republican) party.... a belief in the traditional family unit, that God was involved with the framework of our consitution and should be.
Are these beliefs not shared by some members of the democratic party and independants alike? Are all republicans (and only republicans) good God fearing people? One who does not vote Republican is not necessarily a atheist, or even just an agnostic.
I think that these are not specific attributes of the republican parties, I know that I've met many married democrat couples who were not of the same sex and adhered to the traditional family unit values you hold. I'm sure I've also met at least one republican member who was homosexual and lived with another man.
This is a VERY personal issue to me.
Since I can only offer opinion on an issue that hits close to home for you, I would readily and respectfulloy accept to shut up if you asked me to.
I do think that a woman ought to have a damned good reason, other than "boy was I drunk last night".
I think that you would find that this is not the single most important reason a woman might have an abortion.
As a matter of fact, for the vast majority of women, this is an agonizing and painfull decision. Like you, I too wish that adoption would be a more common recourse. I do think that if we really were given free will, then we should have the right to exercise it. Should abortion be a crime in the eyes of God, then His is the right to decide on the punishment. Keeping in mind that subjecting oneself to such procedure does no preclude one from receving foregiveness, as inadequate as the redemptive effort might appear to you and I. Counseling should be an absolute requirement.
The decision is to legislate wether abortion is a crime against society in the same way a serial killer, or a one time murderer is.
Certainly, I am naive (and I mean it, I really am) but here are my thoughts.
1) A woman deciding to have an abortion will do so as a last resort, because she really believes there is no alternative (hence the reason I'd like to see mandatory counseling) and at a great personal emotional, if not physical cost (hence the reason I'd like to see mandatory counseling)
2) That woman will suffer later in life for that decision (hence the reason I'd like to see mandatory counseling)
3) Neither you and yours, nor I and mine are threatened by her decision
In the meantime, teenage mothers do leave children out to die in plastic bags in the dumpsters, while, as you said "abortion ... IT'S LEGAL NOW".
"partial birth" proceedure ... (sorry, maybe too graphic)
Partial birth abortion is barbaric!
When is life A life? I don't know. Surely, the incrementalist approach has no appeal to me, because I don't not believe life begins at conception, life exists, but is not A life, certainly not even based on potential. Potential is not realization, otherwise, I should be tried for murdering billions of potential human beings as a teenager, in my room, upstairs, reading dirty magazines...
At the same time, I believe that life is A life well before the fetus has the ability to survive out of the womb. I apologize for my inadequacies, I am not an embryologist and my $0.02 are probably worth even less than that, but I do believe that we could come up with an acceptable "when" as in "when" is it too late to consider an abortion.
