Hello

I went 105 in my S500 to the hamptons. It was a saturday around 10am... NOt a car on the highway! My friend was in front of me in his 1989 300 SEL doing 105 as well!

RE: How fast have you gone in your benz

First couple weeks I bought my 32 AMG, I was tempted to try it out one night on the freeway. Especially the vaunted 0-60mph reading where some guys got 4.5 seconds. I even bought a GPro Tech for measurement.

But, I figured it's not worth it to try. Cops catch you and you'll be without a license for years. [V]

Ruperto-

60mph is not illegal on most freeways. Just wait for the day that you are alone on the on-ramp and let her rip. Unless you live in LA, I don't think you will be waiting very long for this opportunity.

110mph 87 420SEL
105mph 91 560SEC
100mph 98 XJ8
140mph 91 BMW 850i (Real thrill when she shifts to 4th at about 135mph)

Yeah, Nick, you're right. I do live in the LA area, but after midnight would probably work somewhere around here.

I guess I got paranoid from my traffic school courses. I just completed my 2nd one recently. (Yay for Internet traffic school! A timesaver!)

RE: How fast have you gone in your benz

120 mph (193 km/h) - according to the speedometer - about 3 years ago in my stock standard, well-loved 1971 W108 280SE, which had then just under a half million miles (804,000 km) on the clock. The old dear still likes a good run now and then to blow out the cobwebs. (Picture included).

Have achieved only 115 mph (185 km/h) - according to the speedometer - in my 1980 W116 280SE.

The W108 Speedo may have been a tad optimistic?

The trouble in Oz (Australia) is finding a half-decent piece of goat track to open up on.
