OT:Need some advices or suggestions about a parking issue on a private owned parking lot

I went to a shopping mall on this past Sunday. I recived a parking violation from the parking patrol.
I am not going to waste everyones's time to describe what happened. However, I believe I was treated unfairly. The violation is going to cost me $65. I contacted the person who is in charge of this and explained to him what happened and asked him to drop it. He told me the best he could do is to cut the fee in half which is $32.5. Now I can afford $32.5, I can even afford $65. But, since I believe I was treated unfairly, so I decided that I am not going to pay for this. What could happen, if I decide not to pay for this? On the back of the slip I received, it mentioned they reserve the right to send all unpaid notices to a third pary collection agency. This happened on a privated owned parking lot any way. Appreciate for your advices.

We can't give advice unless we know the situation. Did you park in a Handicapped space? On the sidewalk? In a fire zone? On top of a small car? How exactly were you treated unfairly?

hire a lawyer or pay the $32 the other party might be a repo guy but i dont think they can do this cuse it is a private lot. i would say if you never have to go back then dont pay it and if you do go back go in another car or get a custom plate. and i doubt they would go to a third party that would cost to much buuut they could be raise it up... up to you...

Actually they already have his license plate which means that whoever the truck is registered to owes the owner money and if a collection agency is called it will reflect badly on the guy's credit rating.

In my opinion it's not worth the effort for $30 and I'd just send them a check. If you feel that strongly about it, complain to the manager and don't visit them again.

Thanks,

Jeff

RE: OT:Need some advices or suggestions about a parking issue on a private owned parking lot

Here was what happened. The parking lot is shared by a shopping mall and a supermarket. They each owned half of the property. The place I parked has signs on the wall indicating the customers can only park here if they remain inside of the premises of the mall. When myself and my Mom arrived the mall, I asked my Mom to go to one of the restaurant in the mall first. I need to go to the supermarket to find my sister, because she told me she will be there to purchase something first. I thought I'd ask her if she wants to join us. I came back about 3 minutes later and sit down with my Mom and enjoy the lunch. When we came back, I found a parking notice on the wind shield. It said I wnet to the supermarket, they considered this is "left premises". I can read the sign and understand what needs to be followed. That's why I asked my Mom to go to the restaurant first instead of we both going. I think this is unfair because our intension was to have lunch in one of the restaurants in the mall. We never intend to park there and go to the supermarket. What do you guys think? Do you think this is fair or unfair?

Sounds like it could be resolved in small claims court if you want to spend the day. Save the receipt for the restaurant bill as evidence.

RE: OT:Need some advices or suggestions about a parking issue on a private owned parking lot

my brother works for the SF Department of Parking & Traffic, I mentioned this topic to him and we both agreed that you should just pay the ticket. I do know that you are rebelling this ticket base on principles. I do understand that, however, there are more things in life that is worth a fight than a $32 ticket. For example, I would love to argue with the IRS over my past three years of taxes but I don't because I know that I won't get far.

As somebody noted earlier, writting a note to the building/business manager as well as the security company would not be a bad idea.

If it makes you feel better, Egg the restaurant. [:o)] Good luck

RE: OT:Need some advices or suggestions about a parking issue on a private owned parking lot

Thanks for all of the advices, I really appreciate all of the suggestions and advices. However, I made a stupid msitake, since I paid cash for the lunch (I left enough cash on the table to cover the lunch and tips), I didn't ask for the reciept. This is rellay stupid. I am going to contact them again tomorrow to see if they could the fee down even more. If I brought this to the small claim court, I probably could win, but think all of the preparations. I'll see what's gonna happen tomorrow. I think I am going to write a letter to the restaurant owner to let him or her know what happened, and because this I will never visit there again. Yhey just lost a customer forever.

I total agree that there are too many things way more important than this in the life. Look at this way, I was mad for the rest of Sunday, I was even more mad after I talked to the guy on the phone. I spent the whole morning by doing nothing other than getting mad. I have to stay in the office for a little bit longer to prepare the meeting for tomorrow. This is not worth it. I feel much better now, thank you guys so much. I appreciate all of the advices, got to finish the paper work, good night.

In this case, it would fall under punitive damages....
Loss of wages, potential business gains and pain and suffering.
