eBay users: please read...

With so many of us using eBay I thought I’d pass this along: there is a criminal out there sending fake emails to eBay members. The fake email asks you to update your credit card information and asks for your eBay password. The email says you must resolve your problem or your account will be suspended. I’ve seen the email and it looks fake. Once the criminal has this information he can post listings under your user name/account and you are charged the insertion fee.

I forwarded the email to eBay security, if you get the email please do the same.

It goes well beyond ebay! I think the technical term is PHISHING.

You are liable to receive substantially identical email purportedly from all financial institutions.

One should read the privacy agreement/statement put forth by each and every company you are doing business or associate with. These will invariably state that these companies will not communicate with you via e-mail requesting your account name, password, SSN, mother's maiden name, credit card information, etc...

I hope no-one here has been duped, responding to these emails will expose you greatly as the information would allow the crooks to open accounts/credit cards in your name!

As for me, I always respond to them (from a fake IP), many times actually, with bogus information, hoping to create a infinitesimal discomfort for the crooks , although I am sure they don't really care, it gives me some very small measure of satisfaction dreaming that they try to open accounts with the ridiculously humourous names I supply on their surveys...

Make your relatives aware of that PHISHING technique, especially unsuspecting parents who are older and newer to the WWW. My 70 y.o. in-laws almost fell into that trap.

I feel so miserable without you; its almost like having you here.
