Globalization - CAUTION - Probably NOT Politically Correct

Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer: Princess Diana's death.

Question: How come?

Answer: An English princess

with an Egyptian boyfriend

crashes in a French tunnel,

driving a German car

with a Dutch engine,

driven by a Belgian who was drunk

on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling)

followed closely by Italian Paparazzi,

on Japanese motorcycles;

treated by an American doctor,

using Brazilian medicines.

This is sent to you by an American,

using Bill Gates's technology,

and you're probably reading this on your computer,

that use Taiwanese chips,

and a Korean monitor,

assembled by Bangladeshi workers

in a Singapore plant,

transported by Indian lorry-drivers,

hijacked by Indonesians,

unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen,

and trucked to you by Mexican illegals.....

That, my friends, is Globalization!! ------------------------------------------------------------

Having done some repairs recently on my G500, I've had parts made in Germany, Austria, Spain, Japan and the USA. Most recent is the auxilliary vacuum pump for the Diff Locks, which was made in the USA, shipped to Germany and sent from Germany to me in the US. The A/C condensor made a similar trip starting in Japan. Truly and international vehicle.[:D]

RE: Globalization - CAUTION - Probably NOT Politically Correct

Nice one...

actually very sad...
BTW I hate it when people drink alcohol and drive...
(why did he have to be Belgian, the driver?... [:)] )

All this globalising will automatically come to an end when energy becomes harder to find and more expensive to buy.
But how it will end, I believe nobody really wants to know. Many wars all through history have been started because of natural resources, and many times under the cover of religion.
People don't want to give up what they once achieved. People always want to "improve" their lives, but sometimes at the cost of others.

A question we should all ask ourselves...how long can we take things for granted?

Greetings from Belgium,
Frank

PS1: I recently read an article about a way to value goods in account of how much drinkeable water it took to produce it and how much energy (kW) was consumed...
Very concerning!

PS2: I don't want to point fingers to anybody! I can easily point out a finger to myself driving 35000km per year in a 300GD which consumes almost triple of what a normal car would consume...

RE: Globalization - CAUTION - Probably NOT Politically Correct

I would caution you to seek the facts. I recall a college geology professor I had years ago. He had the entire class convinced that by 2005 Minneapolis Minnesota (way up north!) would have the climate of Houston Texas (way down south) due to global warming. He sited all kinds of information to support this, and it was not a terribly uncommon theory. Needles to say, he missed the mark. Yesterday it snowed two feet here and this morning it was -20*F. (bring on the warming!)

Point is, yes we should be concerned, but there is certainly no need to get hysterical about it. There is plenty of evidence to suggest we will be fine for quite some time.

How can you tell?

Don't be so sure, it isn't 2005 yet... even in Minnesota.[:)]

I'll bite my tongue this time, although there is a great temptation to comment on globalization, illegal immigration and the proposed amnesty (oops, I meant "phased-in access to earned regularization") program. [;)]
