DLP or LCD

i'm looking to buy a SONY 60" LCD or Samsung 61" DLP. does anyone have an opinion on perference.

the sony is cheaper and has a better looking cabinet. the DLP has a better black and apparently an overall better picture but some are complaining about the rainbow effect.

Wow, I wasn't in the market for either one but after reading that comment I think I'll be heading over to Best Buy. [:D]

RE: DLP or LCD

If you want real cinema, the only way to go (in my opinion) is a CRT projector and a 100"+ screen. Used CRT projectors are easy to find, and remarkable cheap theses days. LCD (TV as well projector) looks like crap in my eyes. DLP is OK if your standards are not too high.

RE: DLP or LCD

thanks tcp for the skinny

most of the dialog on the internet lean towards the DLP. the samsung (HLN617W) i'm looking at has the Faroudja chip. the problem i'm having is no one has a samsung 61" DLP on display for me to view. some concerns i need to address is the rainbow effect everyone is talking about, the excessive fan noise, and is it worth $1000 more than the sony. i'd also have to factor in the matching stand for each. the sony stand alone is an extra $900.

JQ - the front projection is going in the basement/home theatre. this is for the living room.

maybe i should wait for LCos, DILA or organic LED or SED
