As quite a few of us from this forum are English I thought this may be of interest. Found this on the UK government website. They have released a white paper which will affect us motorists in a big way!
They have announced that it is vital that Britain ties in with mainland Europe in everyway possible to attract more tourists to the country and to strengthen it's union while the world is going through such great financial change. They have stated that the euro will be introduced into Britain in April 2004 and the GBP will be phased out by the following April.
Next comes the BIG news!
The only thing that will remain in Britain which is different to mainland europe is that we drive on the left hand side, but during March 2006 the roads will be changed over so that british drivers will drive on the right hand side of the road, this gives the government and local councils 36 months to change road signs and make plans for how this will be changed over. Following the introduction of this scheme, and depending on it's success the government plans to phase out ALL RHD cars by the end of 2010 by not allowing the resale of used RHD cars after this date. They say this is because the life expectancy of the the average car is only 4 years!
Quote “Due to the concern for public safety the sale of both new and used RHD motor vehicles over four years of age will be restricted to those of historic interest
