i have to agree it is snobby. especially when you get a kid who knows the world about cars. i think many newer american cars are decent, but many of them shouldn't be compared to a mercedes. they aren't the same.
the problem is craftsmanship. it is a totally different world. the american companies what to churn out cars for a profit and see what they can build cheaply. they are all designed by committee. i could probably say the same for the volkswagen cars. they have 7 brands and for the mainstream market, 3 platforms.
mercedes and bmw (and a few handful of others) build cars for people to enjoy and want. they build them and take pride in them. well, i think that may have slipped a little in recent years. but, they are cars that everyone, from the chairman down to the mechanic at the dealer, can take pride that they were a part of your car.
i think honda is much the same, but they are still selling mainstream cars. they are selling them because they want people to have a car they can take pride in. hell, i take pride in having a 13 year old honda and it runs like it was new, and looks about the same. the mechanics at the dealer always go on about the condition of the car. they still care.
my friend with a corvette, takes his car to a chevy dealer and they don't give a damned. they rather work on a cavalier because it takes less time.

i don't really know where i am going with this. but i guess i'll stop.

But this is a nice car, and iam searching for the right price to buy it soon:

1970 Pontiac Firebird

Or formula 400:
Beautiful cars - but then I am a little biased *L*. My previous car was a '98 WS6 Formula - had it for 5 years without any "issues" at all and I beat on it hard at both the local 1/4 track and at Autocross events as well. Now the later wasn't it's strong point, but it didn't completely embarrass itself getting around a course. I had a few mods done to the car - it ran consisten mid 12's at 117ish mph in the quarter. Good luck with the hunt!

RE: Driving an american bad ass..

If it weren't for the c0cky salesperson at the Chevy dealer, I'd be driving a 2002 Millenium Yellow convertible right now, cheap plastic parts aside, I love it [:)] I am not biased towards any type of car, I have had them all and they all have thier strong points and weak points IMO....I have or have had Japanese sport compact, German sport luxury, Domestic sport compact and Domestic muscle....oh yes and a Domestic SUV [:)] I love my SLK more than anything, but I'll always have a very weak spot for Corvettes and Saleens [8D]

My daily driver is a 2001 Ford F-250 Powerstroke 4x4 extended cab pickup. Purely as American as they come and I love it. It towers over SUVs and leaves the Japanese wannabe racers in a cloud of smoke at the stop light. What else could you want?

Agreed, I also tool around in a 1999 F-250 SD 4X4 with the V8, whoa momma, I feel like I can pull a house off the foundation. Not the fastest thing on wheels, but it's a monster. And you've got the deisel too, so you really got the torque machine cranking!

RE: Driving an american bad ass..

We have a 2004 Chevy Venture on lease for work. Not my business.

I hate the Chevy dealership. This summer they had over 12 Vettes in the showroom, all of them are now gone and they have been doing a huge renovation to the building and landscaping over the past 2 years.

I don't know if I would want to buy a vehicle at a place that when you look around, can tell they are throwing money away.
