radar detectors and getting out of speeding tickets
hey guys, i'm not saying that it's right to speed, but in the rare times that i do and at certain times to test the ability of the benz, sometimes it cannot be helped, and i was just wondering what radar detectors you guys use.
i have the passport escort 8500 and i love it, it has really worked well, i was considering the valentine but i figured according to all the reviews i read, the 8500 was better in ka detection, and i am glad i bought the 8500,
also do you guys know if there are any badges or stickers you can get that will help get you out of a ticket? i'm constantly paranoid about getting a ticket and i hardly ever speed, just wondering what you guys think

What state do they use the helicopter in? I am not moving there!! It sucks here in Washington, because we have airplanes and helicopters that radar in our mountain passes. They sometimes will fly over our major freeways and that really sucks. I have never gotten pulled over by one, but a friend of mine was doing 95 in the mountain pass and a airplane radared him and radioed ahead to get him pulled over.

Sometimes, you can get out of a ticket my placing a "volunteer firefighter" sticker in your rear window. I have seen them around, and I bet you can get one off the internet...
if that doesn't work, I suggest you invest in a good, laser-radar jammer... though some states don't like those much...(illegal in cal, and a few others)
I haven't used a radar detector in more than 20 years. In northern NJ, the flow of traffic is often going between 70 MPH & 80 MPH. On major highways and under good conditions, those speeds are (at times) tolerated by our State Troopers as long as you are not driving erratically (switching lanes often, passing on the right, etc.). A driver who has a radar detector, cannot help but communicate that fact to a trooper through his driving behavior. Once that happens, all bets are off. By using a radar detector, you are creating an adversarial situation with you on one side and law enforcement on the other. If you clock enough miles, this will almost certainly result in speeding tickets. Most officers will agree that (in and of itself) higher highway speeds (within reason) are not what cause the problems. It is the differential of your speed as compared to the cars in your immediate vicinity. A good rule of thumb is to establish a maximum differential speed (10 MPH, 15 MPH) and never exceed it. This has the benefit of not drawing undo attention to your driving, and making you a much safer driver.
