I was looking for a two-door hatchback with a stick. It had to have pw, pl, cruise and a/c that didnt have 200K miles on it under 6K. It also had to get 30mpg. I had been looking for a Ford Focus (02-07), but was unable to locate one with those specs after looking in the St Louis area. Searching was frustrating because I could find them in Indianapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, Nashville, Little Rock, DC, and Houston, but none in STL.
We were out on a Sunday looking at car lots and drove past the C230. My wife said that she saw it and we went to look at it later. I had never considered a Mercedes when searching, so to find the C230 was a surprise. I phoned the gentleman who owned it, he met me, we drove it, and I loved the performance. It looked great, fulfilled all the parameters above, and I was hooked. I should have walked away.
The gentleman sold it to me after intense negotiations for a cool 4200 bucks. I sent the wife home, finished out transaction, and followed behind in our new "baby benz". I had to work that night, so I went to the gas station for a fill up. Drove to work proud of my new car....very proud...thought I had done well. Oh, was I woefully wrong.
There is a guy on the boards that has a tagline which states, "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes". OMG...is that statement true!
Later that night at work, I received a call in the office...I had a gas leak. I checked it out, and there was a hole in the tank. It was hidden and missed on inspection. I found a place in town to repair it, located a tank, and had it repaired. Total...600 bucks.
Well...long story short, she went to the shop twice more. Total for repairs to make it right (so far) is over 7 grand. Not part of the plan.
So, now Im not just in for a penny, in for a pound...more like 5 pounds.
I admit I like driving it. It has great power, smooth and quiet. After my repairs, I would drive it anywhere. There are other items to fix, but I can handle them.
Why dont I sell it? Well, I like driving it. Its not what everyone else drives. Its paid for. I will not let it beat me.
Oh, after the last trip to the shop, we put full coverage insurance on it...257 every six months. No brainer.
So, if youre still reading this, understand that "Ina Faye" was not part of the plan, but I was swayed by her dangerous curves, pretty face, and awesome performance. I hope to keep her for a long long time.
