I've always driven VW's and Toyota's, then a mate of mine let me borrow his E Class and I was hooked.
Now I finally have my own E320 cdi almost 11 years old it was cheap and
not without a few faults which I might need help with. But I love it.
Likewise, I sold my relatively new 2010 Jetta TDI Wagon for cash and used
the same money to buy a clean one-owner 2005 CDI last December.
Since then, we have gone 20K miles in the CDI and could not be more satisfied.
On a recent 5K roundtrip from Southern California to our cottage on the Winnipeg River in Ontario Canada,
I concluded that there is no finer road car than the W-211 we have, and in more
than sixty years of owning just about everything from Bimmers to 'Vettes,
I consider myself to be knowledgeable on this subject.
The only problem I have found is to not be caught speeding, as I find without using the Cruise Control,
all of a sudden, I would see we were 'cruising' at 100 mph or more without even knowing or feeling it!
Tank fuel economy averaged in the 35 mpg range for all eight tanks required for the 5K miles,
and at the speeds we were driving and while using the A/C, that is really good IMHO.
Never had to fuel up more than once daily for the total of eight travel days.
How many fine road cars or any vehicle for that matter can make that statement?
The only problem I see is that these vehicles are now only available used,
as after the MY 2006s, the diesels are no longer available sans DPFs!
What a same!
