I was more or less biased against the stigma that goes along w/ most older luxury cars that either turn out to be money pits with abysmal resale value or are beyond what is in most peoples' all CASH DEAL reaches.
That said I came across the silver '90 126 w/ the 103 engine for $1k cash with 151k miles and 2 owners - 30k miles later, it still has most of the problems it had when I was first introduced to it as I have been employed off/on of the past few years, making it very challenging to get everything done to the tune of about $2500. Well as 3 years has now progressed onward, I have ended up with a '92 W201 Sportline and a '88 W126 coupe. Nothing is as stately, practical, distinguished or just 'fun' as what I've experienced with these 3 cars. In retrospect, no regrets - I won't drive/own anything but a Benz (or maybe a Ford 1-ton) - Period...
Own a car that ages very gracefully and travel with it at triple digit speeds, day in and day out, for long distances, showing no sign of fatigue, wear nor tear...
