I am indeed a Mercedes youngster... I'm only 15 and have my drivers permit and i got a w123 300D as my very first car for 3500. It was chosen because it is easy to work on and is a nice place to start off with car mechanics (except the vacuum system &#128540. It was also obviously very cheap to buy and also to insure, it is comfortable and most importantly it has CLASS and "swag". Also seeing it is a nice father/son bonding experience. Also seeing that I don't have an income we plan to convert it to SVO soon. And it was one of the safest cars of its time and is still pretty safe so mom is pleased (not so much about the very time consuming work that everything requires on it &#128527

They just dont make em like they used to; even the germans have slacked off

Back in the late 80s, for a brief time, I owned a 69 350 and I liked the build quality, performance (especially from such a small motor) and their looks. It`s been a long time between drinks but I got the bug again and after reading about all the accolades that the W126s had back in their day, the choice was pretty easy.

My Mercedes is driving me around the benz..

I bought my 98 diesel, because I needed a full size car to drive back and forth to work that has a seat that adjusts a hundred different ways. My back problems meant I could no longer drive the little car I had driven back and forth for years. Also, the diesel got the same fuel mileage as the little car I had been driving.

I was more or less biased against the stigma that goes along w/ most older luxury cars that either turn out to be money pits with abysmal resale value or are beyond what is in most peoples' all CASH DEAL reaches.
That said I came across the silver '90 126 w/ the 103 engine for $1k cash with 151k miles and 2 owners - 30k miles later, it still has most of the problems it had when I was first introduced to it as I have been employed off/on of the past few years, making it very challenging to get everything done to the tune of about $2500. Well as 3 years has now progressed onward, I have ended up with a '92 W201 Sportline and a '88 W126 coupe. Nothing is as stately, practical, distinguished or just 'fun' as what I've experienced with these 3 cars. In retrospect, no regrets - I won't drive/own anything but a Benz (or maybe a Ford 1-ton) - Period...

Own a car that ages very gracefully and travel with it at triple digit speeds, day in and day out, for long distances, showing no sign of fatigue, wear nor tear...

I bought my two Mercedes because they were extremely cheap and I needed a car right then. Originally, I was planning just to buy one but they were coming from my adoptive mother's husband and he sold both to me for $1,250. Can't beat that.

190D 2.2L 5-speed is the ONLY North America vehicle which satisfies 3 criteria:
1. Greater than 40MPG. (51MPG EPA unadjusted).
2. Less than $1,000 cost. (+ $250 identical parts car).
3. Very safe and strong chassis.

Miata was just a little too small, wife wasn't comfortable with the size of the car, and the blind spots in my Saab convertible (soft-top).

Limited my search to hard-top convertibles, rear wheel drive, with reasonable MPG, and a price I could afford... SLK230 kept rising to the top. Drove one, fell in love, and bought it.

Still love it and would get another tomorrow if something were to happen to this one.
