Heritage, that is why.

Why buy a copy when you can get the real thing, (A Mercedes Benz). With over 100 years of building cars, every car company will try to compair themselves to Mercedes Benz. They invented the automobile and as long as Mercedes Benz company presidents, designers, managers, accountants, dealerships, service advisors, and parts personnel don't forget where they came from and the heritage they built, I will keep buying them.

I bought our S500 because I wanted nice transportation for the Garmin I have to keep stuck to my windshield even though the car has what Mercedes has the nerve to call "navigation."

Thanks to heavy depreciation of MB sedans, used ones (in good condition, do your homework!) are a tremendous VALUE (performance, cost per mile, satisfaction, looks, prestige, etc) to us middle class folks. Why buy a new Accord or (insert other mainstream sedan here) when you can drive a used Mercedes for the same or often less overall $ per mile. It's a no brainer.

I went to see a friend who happens to be a gray market importer here in Jakarta. We talked and a few fo the cars caught my eye and I approached him about buying one with certain conditions, he said he could do that and a deal was struck. Besides had told myself for years I would get one after all of the crappy made in Indonesia Toyotas the companies always gave me for a company car.

which one?

I have had mercedes since my first 230-8. all have been good cars --- until I bought an ML55 AMG. the car was bad and the service from my dealer was so poor I didn't think Id get another benz. Silly me, I bought an SLK32 AMG. I haven't had much interaction with the dealer so far but they did try to cheat me the very first time I took it in.
I wanted them to change all the fluids (even the blinker fluid) the service writer called me and said my trans pan gasket was leaking and they would have to charge me $300.00 to fix it. UH---I am already paying for that because I ASKED you to change the trans fluid. The service writer beat a HASTY retreat...time will tell i will try them one more time as they are in a convenient location but I sure hope they don't try to "girl" me again.

I said "performance", but I could just have easily said looks or prestige as well. I've always like M-Bs, and was very taken by the CLS when I first saw one a couple of years ago. So now I've just bought one, and I bought the AMG because I loved the acceleration. And, as I've looked over the current line up, and renewing my acquaintance with past models, there are several other M-Bs I'd be very happy to have.

Drive as fast as you can...but no faster.
