Exclamation Mercedes Maintenance Co$t$

Are actually on par with most modern cars , if you do the work your own self .

I'm a fan of the W-123 chassis cars and I drive my '84 Diesel Coupe hard , far and wide , very cheaply .

Plus as you mentioned , it's a fun car to drive and is reliable and safe too .

why you bought your Benz cont'd

yes, I also had a W123. Actually, two. My first was a 1979 300D, non-turbo. Nice car, drove it a long time, but rust was eating it away when i sold it. My second was a 1982 300D, black on black . Paint went a mile deep, gorgeous finish. Very nice car. My first turbo-D. First diesel that was really on a par with a gas car, in terms of performance, and fairly quiet as well. Huge improvement over the 1979 in many ways. But the best car I ever had was my 1992 300D turbodiesel (W124 body). More comfortable, quieter, better equipped, did not use any oil (unlike any of my previous 5 diesels). Sadly, I failed to stop in time when the person in front of me stopped short. The insurance company totalled it. It was not damaged that much but the book value of it was modest. To this day, 8 years later, I regret that i did not get it repaired anyway. Little damage to the mechanical stuff, and it probably could have been made new.

My first benz of many to come!

I saw an SL sitting for sale in a yard on a highway I travel often.
One day I thought, "I really like the style, so I stopped to take a look. Although it was too far gone (79 450SL). I was hooked and the search began.
Drove 6hr one-way to Chicigo, Junk. Flew to Charrolette, Junk! Flew to NY, Junk!
Then, 5 months later, Flew to New Hampshire, '81 380SL, dark blue, blue interior and ran great with 103k. I mainly want a strong drivetrain. Got my wish. Drove it home 15.5hr without a sputter. It doesn't leak or use a drop of any oil. Paint is great. Man, I LOVE this Benz.
I am now looking for my second. I don't think I will ever have too many.
Thanks to this site, I have put it all back the way it was new!
Thanks, all of you for your great knowledge of a addicting brand!

I bought a very nice used 1997 e320 after my BMW 735iL let go of its third head gasket. I was shopping for as "S" when my wife tested an e320 with 45,000 miles. She fell in love with it and never went back to BMW. My son trashed the entire bottom of the car when he surfed over a highway curb median at 70MPH. After fixing that it was my wife’s turn to wreck it. On January 1 2010 it was my turn. A head on collision and it was still able to drive away (But in lots of pain). We all walked away from serious accidents that have caused other cars to roll over or hospitalize occupants. I learned that the Mercedes W210 was one of the safest cars ever. I was so impressed I went out and bought another just like it but 4matic. For work I now drive a Mercedes Sprinter van that is tougher than any pickup truck I have ever driven. The Traction control is superb. whether driving the soup rut dirt roads in Northern Maine during "Mud" season or towing a step van on a trailer through fire roads on top of Mount Pocono in PA or filling my "Dump Box" insert with 3000 pounds of sand or pulling out tree stumps my Sprinter never fails to meet any challenge with impressive ambition. After my Son's Saturn lost an engine last month we found and bought a nice 1992 190e for $700. I think that people relate a Mercedes with 150,000 miles to some other car with 150,000 miles and they are afraid of big expense. But that could not be more wrong. If you do your own work..these cars a really cheap to operate for the second half of their life. There is no question that if my Mercedes survive my kids they will easily last my family for more than 10 years. What could be nicer than driving a real pretty 20 year old economical 190e for 15 years with no payments?

We wanted a quieter car to replace our '98 Accord. The BMW was too expensive. There are no Audi or Infinity dealers within 100 miles. We liked the appearance and size of the 300C (2010 sport) and obtained one for an affordable price. The car's appearance features are more fragile than expected so we will have to be more careful how we use it, what roads we take, and where we park. We are very happy with our selection, however.

My uncle had it sitting in his garage not running for years, and he said I could have it. At first I really just wanted it becuase it was a Mercedes and would be my first car. Not love at first sight, but I fell in love with it when I began working on it.

I bought my car thinking I was getting a great deal on a really nice car and reliable quality. Now I dont think so much, I havent spent so much time and money on my THREE previous cars as I have had in the short span of time owning this one.

Size and the overall quality of workmanship. I like torque more than HP. That's a Benz
