the mechanic told me to
Glibness aside from my earlier post: seats 7 and has a huge cargo capacity, so it covers the minivan category. It loves long drives, being designed for touring, so we can save on airline tickets. It's safe and capable in an emergency. It can handle any road condition and even some rough roads, so it covers the crossover SUV wagon category. It gets about the same mileage as an older CRV (though premium gas). It isn't likely to be as reliable as a honda, but it will last longer if I care for it, so it balances out. Basically, it was the one car that met all the points on our checklist, within our budget.
The clincher, for me, was when I was having the car inspected. I still wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing. But the guy is an indie who used to race for BMW and knows his benzes, so after the inspection he pulled me into the shop away from the seller and said "At that price, in that condition, if you don't buy it I will."
I settled on the price shortly after, realizing it was a keeper.
