Well i was never a MB fan. I had started playing around with biodiesel and WVO and was looking for a test bed vehicle. The 300 SD seemed to fit the bill. After much research I found my candidate on Ebay and bought her for 1500$ Then while experimenting with different fuel sources( I am to this day amazed that she will run on almost anything) I fell in love with this 25 year old "beater" and she became my daily driver. Thats saying something as I have around 15 cars. I started upgrading her and really appreciate the quality of build and ease of repair. This website has helped numerous times and I have tried to repay the favor by helping others. So while value was the original reason....I guess I have to put other as there is no "love" category.

Persistance is fertile.

When I was 15, my dad bought a 1982 300SD Turbo. At first, I wasn't to fond, as BMWs have been in my life since I was a kid. When I got my drivers license, my dad worked at a Benz dealership in Pensacola. He found a 1984 300D Turbodiesel. 154,226 miles. Silver, with blue interior. The car had one owner, an old lady, who finally decided to buy a new Mercedes. It had been sitting for about 4 months and after replacing the fuel pump, the car ran great.
Now at 20, I love this car. Things haven't been great for it lately, but I plan one keeping her running for years.

Only a Mercedes Benz

Safety

I bought a roll cage. The fact that it is fun to drive fast on back roads yet rides like a dream on the highway probably has something to do with it.

Ok I’ll play along with the poll!

Many reasons for buying my first one but the main reasons for buy the next ones were due to the technology and engineering put into these vehicles.

This is an answer that is quite common, but a bit nubulous. What "technology and engineering" aspects do you mean? I have an E320 CDI and about the only exceptional technology and engineering I am aware of in this car is the Diesel engine. I am curious to know what you have in mind.

Thanks.

Electronically controlled air suspension and the electronic braking systems, sophisticated aerodynamics, residual heat utilization and on and on we go...frankly I’m surprised you were not aware of theses things...but I was glad to get you started in the right direction.

One noob to another.

Diesel engine and fabulous price! I've had my eye on diesel MBs for years and found an offer I couldn't refuse.

I always wanted a Mercedes Benz, but here in Brazil they have always been very expensive because of import taxes were too high.
Now the rates are better and we can buy them, but are still more expensive than Brazilian cars.
