I am with you on that one DanielSL.

As soon as I can afford another (which probably won't be until I am out of college), I am purchasing the nicest I can afford! They're addictive machines! And beautifully engineered.

Everyone has that particular car that the love and a special reason why the love it. For me it’s the w124 Mercedes E class (86-95). Riding in it makes me feel presidential or important. It has timeless styling, good power and an overall good ride. Not as expensive to maintain as an S class but more statue than a 190e or c class. It’s basically a “B” student or the middle child like me. When I was growing up in the BX, all the D-boys had this car. So in my mind the 86-93 E class is synonymous with power. Even Nas had a versus in his song Street Dreams “Niggaz push Beemers and 300 E's”

So that’s my story.

Got my first one yesterday! 1999 ML430.

I was looking for something safe and reliable in a certain price range. This was one of the options, and it seemed to be a lot more bang for the buck than the other options. I live in the mountains in Colorado and I needed 4/AWD, good slippery road performance, and sturdy (in case of deer attack). The build quality is impressive on this 10-yr-old, 120K+ mile vehicle. It's got a few small issues (broken switches and possibly in need of a MAS), but it was still a good buy.

Besides, I've been a motorhead all my life, and I've always wanted a beater M-B.

Why Indeed

I bought my first one in 1979 It was a 240D. During the "gas shortage" while everyone waited in line I would just pull up to the diesel pump and fill it up! I sold the car with 279k miles on it, That car was bought for reliability. The clk350 was bought for looks. The performance is just a great bonus

why?

I bought my first Mercedes a 2007 CLS 550 for the styling, power and what I thought was the best engineered most reliable car on the road that is if you believe the ads. Granted I love this car, it is amazing and when everything is working it a phenomenal car bar none. BUT I have to say the reliability aspect of the car is not there. The GPS system is junk. The brakes are horrible from the get go, a problematic and expensive Airmatic suspension system. even the cigarette lighter is junk, been replaced more times than I can count. But Like I said, no other car looks like it or rides like it. Just visited Germany and drove by the Mercedes Museum in Stutgart. Had fun driving our B class rental on the Autobahn but boy oh boy wish I had CLS over there, best I've been able to do here with it is 145mph before running into traffic and/or out of road. best rental could do over there was 200kph or 124mph and had cars passing like we were standing still.

The power on a big body

Gott sei Dank.

Why I bought a Merc? Superior German engineering of course.

I owned several BMWs 85 & 95 525i, 86 two 88s & a 89 3 series 325e/i/ix models (including a convertible)

also a VW Corrado which was fun
but after having a 93 190e 2.6 I wanted something like it but with more power
the 96 C280 was the answer

after having my 95 BMW 525i 5 speed for a short while I liked the performance (after added perf chip) but I wanted something smaller and sportier looking so the C280 was the right solution

thank you

But I don't think they offer the C40 AMG in the US
I've seen the C36, C43, C55 and new C32 here

I think my next Merc will be an AMG
just depends on my budget

although I have preference to the L6 engine
most the AMG models have V8 configurations
