i can remember it as if it was yesterday even though it was actually 1994 and the beautiful Silver arrow that broke my heart was a W124 E320 Sportline Coupe finished in Nautical Blue with fab Grey Nappa Leather whilst it sat outside my uncles house gleaming in the summer sunlight. I was hooked and when he took me for a drive in it after warming the drivers seat for at least 2 hours i was blown away. Ever since i have always had a soft spot for the three pointed star, Now i work for a Mercedes Benz Independent Dealer as a Sales Director so i guess that was really a life changing day for me really.
About a year ago i was searching through the classifieds and there before me was my uncles old car for sale, now with 135000 miles so i rang the guy up and bought it over the phone and now my fiance uses her as her daily runner, I have just about driven every mercedes available here in europe and they never seem to have lost there sparkle to me anyway, Even the ones that really do break your heart and wallet.
I guess i am hooked and i seem to be spreading the Merc bug too which is great as my dad always says if you can go to work and do something you enjoy then you will never really have too go to work.
Well, let's see.....I have owned 6 Mercedes Benz sedans over the past 25 years, with a combined mileage in the ballpark of just over 1.5 million miles! All of them, except my newest one, had more than 300,000 miles on them when I sold them. After a while, they prove to be a reliable part of the family that I can't seem to lose my affection for. So, when it was time for a new car earlier in the year, a CPO 2006 E350 seemed to be a good match. So far, it has been a dream!
You cannot beat the way these things are Engineered. I am an Engineer/technologist and I have learned much about technology from owning a Star. BMW are simply not Engineered as well, and Audi is getting there but not there yet.
Bought the last w124 version because they're made with quality and will last a lifetime. Haven't bought one again but maybe this coming 2010 since I heard Benz is back to making cars that isn't built to a price but built to a standard.

MY CAR KILLS THE ENVIROMENT! 1 TREE AT A TIME!
I bought my first and only Benz (so far ) from a private seller in Phillipsburg NJ. w126 1987 300SDL The car looks great, but I am still working on putting the rear differential in. I found one in a scrap yard in good condition, closer to my ratio, but not the stock one.. I'm looking for a 2.88. If all else fails, I messaged an eBayer, and hopefully we can trade after I buy his 2.88. Wish me luck! And within the next few months, I will be installing a WVO system (Greasecar most likely). My car is SAVING the environment one tree at a time. ^

No rust, just a non-stock (617 5-cyl engine, and 3.69 ratio differential swapped in) for $1,700.00. I am still working on putting the rear differential in. The main reason was because I had owned at least one of every other German brand that was available in the U.S. at one time or another. But never thought I would be in a place financially to properly care for a Benz. Second reason was because I own four Rovers, and once in a while, you just want to drive a car. But the only one I own is a track only Porsche, and it's not street legal. Third, and the reason I settled on a W126, is Damn is it one pretty car. Twenty years old, two owners, and people who are educated well enough to know better still think it's only 8 or 9 years old. I love the feeling that gives me.
It reminds me of the line from Ferris Bueller's Day Off:
"I highly recommend that if you have the means of acquiring one; that you pick one up."
