My Dad got me hooked on MB's. He owns a 89 380SL (175K+miles) & 85 420SEL (200K+miles) both are in immaculant condition and are a blast to drive. One day I was driving buy a stealership and saw this C320 gleaming in the sunlight, well of course I had to stop and take a look at it! To make a long story short I fell in love with it, the price was right and I bought it (this was 4 years ago) since then the Mrs. has put her name on it. I have also purchased a ML320 (recently sold), CLK320 Coupe (I currently drive but giving this one to my son) and now in the market for a SL or CL Class (they're both sexy looking).

In my family there are MB since 1968,
My dad had a 190D 1956, and in 1968 he had a car crash ,a hard one.
He hit a big truck , my dad was blown 33 meters behind. My dad and my uncle were traveling and both had only minor injuries, exept for my dads left leg where the hand brake was stuck in (you know how the 190 D 1956 had the handbrake just under the wheel).
Then when the car was sent home ,my grandfather (who was a blacksmith , and proffesional with metals/cars )saw the car , he told to my dad my "son if you want to drive drive only a Daimler - Benz" , and that was part of his will.
Also MB has prooven that it is a lifesaver in other crashes in my family. And in 2005 we got the w210 2000 320cdi and are very happy with it.
We are also planing of getting a nother one .

cheers

vi.

Post The Passion of Mercedes Benz

I voted "other" on the poll.

For me it has more to do with passion than attention. I'd honestly just assume go unnoticed on the road. I lived in Germany as a boy and remember admiring a Mercedes Benz when I saw one, which was often. There was just something special about them though I couldn't really figure out what it was. When my family back to the states I rode in several Mercedes owned by various Aunts or Uncles. The third car that I ever drove was a 92 600 SEL when I was 16, just a few months after getting my license. That car completely hooked me... I mean, how couldn't it. I've always liked their exterior shapes and how the interiors were laid out, especially the W140 which to date is still one of my favorite cars.

I just bought a 2009 W211 E550. It's the first car to really impress me as much as the W140 that I drove. The shape, the feel, the performance all spark an emotion in me that I haven't felt since I was 16 and driving my Uncle's car. I'm not rich or anything. I'm just a guy who keeps my expenses well within my means and I was able to save enough money to buy my car over several years. Yeah that money would have been more wisely used as a contribution toward my retirement, but you have to live a little and I don't think there's anything wrong with what I've done so long as I don't make it a frequent habit.

My whole purpose for joining BenzWorld was to find people who are just as passionate about these cars as I am. To actually have an open conversation and not feel like I'm just bragging endlessly. To debate or simply hear different opinions with respect to Mercedes Benz and their cars.

Cheers
SJ.

CLS 550

This 2007 cls550 is my first MB. Amazing looks and styling, great power and performance, I didn't want a lexus because they just are fancy looking toyotas, the cls550 is unmistakable for any other car BUT the service challenges of this car and from what I hear from other MB owners are a joke and out of 3 dealerships the car has been to, rarely are items fixed right the first time. I have a 2002 chevy truck with 200k miles on it that I have yet to put a dime into it for repairs, just maintenance. This car has oil leaks, a/c problems, bad brakes from day one, finally we were told by one dealership to have the brakes done elsewhere as they know the MB brake pads are worthless so we did and wow no problems since, no squeals, no fading, no slippage in the rains amazing. a miserable non user friendly GPS system that when updates come out, they are out of date already by over a year, its so bad that we finally bought a Garmin Nuvi 350 that we use instead that was only $300 that is 100 times better and easier to use with more and better more up to date info on it. Love the looks, styling, ride, power of the car but never imagined that an $80,000 car would be so unreliable and expensive to maintain repair wise vs my chevy truck that only cost $20,000.

That's a real shame that you're having so many issues with your CLS, I personally have an 09 E and the breaks sound and perform very well, but I suppose time will tell. With respect to the navi, one of several reasons for holding out for an 09 was the unimpressive navi in the 07s. I was hoping they'd upgrade the software and they did. The new software is quite an improvement over the old in every respect. As for your Chevy, good for you man, I've owned 5 American cars and every one was a maintenance nightmare.

Good to know about the new navi, that helps, yup the chevy truck is great had a ford and a dodge both were disasters, the last chevy I had was 7 years old when I sold it with 382,000 miles no oil burning, no repairs except for a water pump a month before I sold it. The cls is really and truely an amazing car and will buy another MB no problem its just the basic things that are annoying and the fact that all 3 benz dealerships service wise have been nightmares in not knowing anything about the car, or how to fix them right the first time. for example i fully expect that when paying $300 for an oil change that the oil plug and oil filters would be tightened so they don't leak, or as what happened one time when they pulled it into the service lane the plug fell out and 16 quarts of mobil one poured out into the lane. could have been a real disaster had I pulled out onto the highway 10 mins later and that happened. Same thing with the brakes, that aftermarket pads were required to fix the problem. or as with the cigarette lighter, brought it in, paid $163 to have it fixed, was promised it was and when I pushed in the lighter it didn't work, ie didnt lock in to heat up was very annoying. An hour later still not fixed and I already had turned in the loaner car, finally I made them give me back my money and took to a local repair shop, the guy took 30 seconds to diagnose and fix it and didnt even charge me. It was just that the tabs inside needed to be bent back in with a small screw driver to lock in the lighter plug, said it was caused by cell ph charger, happens all the time.

Yeah so far my service department seems to be pretty competent. The sales associate who sold me the car has stayed involved every step of the way well after the sale to make sure I have the best experience I can possibly have. While my car is still very young I took it in for a cracked bit of wood trim the other day and my clear bra had a few bubbles. Then on my way home I ran over something that blew out the drivers side rear tire... first time changing a flat and it's on my new Mercedes. No fun w/ all the people driving by staring. They were on top of it first thing the next morning, as the incident happened just after they closed. They fixed the tire free of charge assuring me I could use it temporarily and discounted the replacement for me which should be in on Tuesday. The service adviser is very polite but direct and managed to keep me smiling the entire time. In addition I got the dealer loner for free, which they normally charge $8.00 a day for. So far I highly recommend these guys to anybody that lives in the Denver area.

1995, Mercedes Benz E280, Gasoline 6 Cylinder

Dear Everyone,
Please educate me on this Mercedes Benz I am contemplating to buy it.
It is a
1995, Mercedes Benz E280, Gasoline 6 Cylinder
Question going around my mind are;
1) How many Kilometers will it make for a liter a gasoline?
2) How can I open the door, the battery is drained and not able to open it with the key?
3) How would you rate this particular model from 1 to 10, “one” as “not good”, “Ten” as the “Excellent”.
4) Where can I buy the front Emblem cheaper.. I do not mind if it is not really the original ones if there are available.
Thank you very much for taking time.
Respectfully yours,

I wish I could help, but I do not believe that the E280 was ever sold in the US. You might consider looking online at some of the review sites whom may be able to give you information based on survey and tests. Here we use JD-Powers and Consumer Reports, you'll have to excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure if they provide reviews for products sold outside the US.
